i have to say, i wasn't raised on country music even though my father was born and raised in tennessee and lived most of his life there. i was raised on folk music. but there are times when the two overlap or compliment each other, or mesh in many ways. they even cross the boundaries into blues on alot of levels. so i'm listening to merle this morning as he recently passed away. his passing is described as country music's loss. but his music did pair or cross with folk, at least to me, and so i think a larger audience will miss his music too.
i picked out a more classic merle piece to pay tribute to today. but i thought this pairing with willie nelson was fun too...in case you'd like to hear more.
enjoy!
p.s. the atlantic wrote a great piece about merle and his passing here, in case you are interested.
