a little bit of privacy.

i have to tell you, i'm not a big fan of shades, blinds, partitions, or anything of that nature. there is something terribly corporate, stuffy and to be honest, somewhat boring about most of them. i usually go for long, drippy-to-the-floor curtains, something like that for window treatments. but this company silent gliss, turned my head a bit, creating softer partitions, privacy treatments whether for residential or commercial. they have tested the waters in the shade area, offering a bit more fun, a bit more flirty and definitely more interesting than the status quo of what's out there...what do you think?

i think in the right setting, in small amounts, these shades and privacy treatments work well. did i say that? i suppose i did. :) enjoy this wednesday everyone, it's raining here, but that's ok, we need it to wash all of this pollen away!

from house to cathedral.

have you ever thought of incorporating stained glass into your home or commercial space? well, let me tell you...recently i have stained glass on the brain. you see, i'm writing a very detailed paper on gothic cathedrals, one in particular, amiens. so you understand my reasoning don't you? actually, if done right, and that means not overdone, stained glass really can work. what are your thoughts?

this gorgeous window, (here)

just a pinch of it, (here)

so, could you add a little cathedral-esque quality to your home? i would love one window, way up high in my home, an accent window, that when the sun is in the perfect spot in the sky, the light streams through, ever so subtly, in a romantic, sort of sexy, gothic type of way. beware, i have 2 papers yet to write on completely different subjects, what will i come up with then? oh boy. stay tuned for those posts too. enjoy the light of these stained glass windows and drop me your opinion on the whole stained glass matter. :)

a borrowed idea.

i have always loved the store window displays at every anthropologie, never mind the interior displays. one thing that always intrigues me is their use of found objects reinvented. like books, wire coat hangers, window panes, manila folders, things like that. i recently saw a store window of theirs that had bunches of white plastic bags piled up, then as you walked by the windows they started to float towards the sky. as they continued to float, they slowly turned into white birds. just so imaginative.

so of course, for my shop window in desperate need of spring, i looked around me and what did i see...lots of cardboard boxes from recent deliveries. so, in keeping with anthropologie's theme, i began the process of cutting my birds, all shapes and sizes. instead of white, i sprayed them lemon yellow and hung them with clear wire. the first photo is the anthropologie window and the pictures with the yellow birds are of my store window. not bad huh? besides the cost of a can of spray paint, my window display cost me next to nothing! let me know your thoughts. i did want something bright like this yellow to spring into action and they really cheer me. :)

new lovelies from wisteria.

lovely french seaside birds. made of oyster and other shells.

votive holders fit for a queen.

mercury glass.

craving anything mercury glass.

floral hand stenciled chest. pure love.

tripod stool with mango wood for the seat. crafted after the late 18th century's potters stool.

signs of spring? oh yes!

balcony railing headboard. i've always wanted to find a gorgeous old iron gate for a headboard and i love this idea of using found objects and creating a new identity and use for it. fabulous.

urn candelabra. elegant new take on the ordinary candelabra.

love this wooden cake stand. you could put just about anything on top!

taking a peek back at one of my favorite sites to wisteria. and to my happiness seeing many new selections to wish for! touches of spring permeate wisteria's site right now and as usual completely elegant, unique pieces from the new urn candelabra, to all of the mercury glass! oh...the mercury glass! love the touch and element that this material, look and feel brings to a mantle, a window sill or a tabletop, worn, shiny, old and new compressed into one. love. lots of loves at first sights on wisteria today! happy friday, it's sunny here with promise of warming temperatures so all is well! enjoy....

as we enter into a new day, a new year and a new administration in the white house, i thought it appropriate to enter into some favorite entry ways from domino magazine. these are some of my favorites from their picks and on this day of reflection, really a week of reflection between this past monday's holiday and the fresh, exciting mood of this tuesday, we realize that our new president will be entering into many new doorways and entry ways. i'm intrigued as to what the new look of the white house will be from a design standpoint. i would love to have had the opportunity to design even one of the rooms. if you could design any white house room, which one would you have selected. would it have been one of Obama's kids rooms? or a more formal room, or a room for the entire family to let their guard down and relax? hmmmm. perhaps an entry way? i'd have to go with one of the more relaxed rooms myself. fun entry way eye candy on this momentous tuesday! enjoy. :)
