artist feature: esther stewart

really inspired today by the very graphic color and pattern combinations coming together in australian artist esther stewart's paintings...

hinting of landscapes, seen from the inside out or the outside in, (or at least that's how i view them!) her work comes alive through the use of planes intersecting, patterns connecting, overlapping, line upon line, carefully lined up against one another, comparing, contrasting. your eye continuously moves about the painting, around it. they are interesting, curious and lovely in their stillness. just saying...enjoy!

lost & found

have you guys heard of the lost & found shops or am i just late to the game? i'm in instant love with this line. founder jamie rosenthal opened this "groundbreaking and innovative collection of shops", in california and in turn an "off the radar shopping experience" developed, an opportunity to peruse unusual, small boutique pieces, each one feeling more special than the next...

these were a few of my favorites but seriously, i could have just posted every single thing that lost & found currently offers. just so gorgeous, all of it. see way more here, & enjoy!

mariko kusumoto's brooches

these are brooches, pins, created by artist mariko kusumoto, believe it or not...

incorporating materials such as polyester and powder coated metal, mariko states that her work "reflects various, observable phenomena that stimulate my mind and senses; they can be natural or man-made. i ‘reorganize’ them into a new presentation that can be described as surreal, amusing, graceful, or unexpected."

to me, each piece is like bits of a floating dream, scattered colors and shapes and patterns that you sometimes remember but only vaguely once you wake. mariko states that she likes "the softness, gentle texture, and atmospheric (e.g., translucent) quality of the fabrics." these are so special, don't you think? enjoy...
