made from a clean walnut and painted with accents of color such as robins egg blue and orange, dylan lynch and joe gibson, founders of revolution design house believe that you should "love what you own". well i'd love to own one of their planters. and what about grabbing one as an interesting christmas gift? just saying...enjoy!

ok, so i love this house.
this historic building in chihuahua mexico was restored and give a fresh, contemporary addition. the two together? perfection really...
the transformation was the result of the talented LABor Studio. according to the contemporist article, due to a number of older buildings in the historic district of chihuahua mexico being demolished to install surface parking lots (don't get me going!), the "population has migrated to the fringes leaving an empty housing stock." so what i really love about what LABor Studio set out to do was, through amazing design and thoughtful awareness of the very urban landscape, was "to demonstrate the possibilities of contemporary housing in the urban center."
to be an artist, a designer, an architect, is to be a visionary. to do something original, especially today, is difficult. LABor Studio has created something of a diamond in the rough. something spectacular. they have reintroduced gorgeous to the point where it sets an example that hopefully others will follow. enjoy!
p.s you can read more about this home and how it has many very "green" elements to it, here.

mater.
the danish design brand mater has captured my wood loving attention today...
mater, latin for mother, is "recognized and applauded as a global pioneer in creating sustainable, eco-conscious, socially responsible design." oh, and by the way, their designs are exceptionally classic and timeless...simply beautiful.
mater boasts a design team rooted and established but mater is also a company that constantly reaches out to fresh design talent to get to this end result, just really great design. enjoy!

josh blackwell's bags.
artist josh blackwell has taken throw away objects and creatively constructed them into out of the ordinary pieces of art...
ordinary grocery or convenience store bags, the kinds that you see floating through parking lots and down busy streets, stuffed around metal fences and clogging up waterways are now re-purposed, into sculptural reincarnations of maybe something a plastic bag hoped to be, if a plastic bag could hope to be anything in the first place.
what makes art and artists exciting, every single day, is that they show you something that you have not seen before. they allow you to experience something that you have not experienced before. josh blackwell has offered us that, a visual & unexpected treat. he has turned a rather utilitarian or some might say ugly object into something visually breathtaking, something you would now unexpectedly and maybe in an unexplainable way, want to place on your wall. that's what i'm talking about. enjoy!

tall, flared, cone metallic.
i'm in the market for new planters. they are like pillows to me, i trade them out often for new ones...
like pillows can offer your couches and chairs an instant facelift, a seasonal fresh-up, planters can do the same thing for your doorway, patio areas or deck space. a few years ago i might have been seriously drawn to these, these tall, flared, cone metallic gold pots (featured here, offered here), but lately i'm drawn to lighter color palettes and unusual material combinations.
i have my eyes on a few and once i settle i'll share them with you, and what i choose for them. the last 2 years i've had large clusters of beach grass. simple. quiet. lovely. even though the planter may change out, the beach grass might have to stay. how do you usually "dress" your doorways or patios? what do you plant? i'd love to hear! enjoy!

chit chat. by rizz.
"strangers are searching together for the best balance. the ice breaks, the atmosphere improves and the waiting is less boring." the company is rizz, the seating is called chit chat, and the description? just so great...
you'll notice that the way the seating is placed, that it moves, ever so slightly, it swings as rizz likes to say. and the trees in the middle do to, ever so slightly move. how fun are these for commercial spaces either individually or in clusters, groups, like people, chit chatting. hence the name.
rizz is based out of the netherlands but sells all over the world, including the u.s. oh, and they have a surprisingly innovative and short video (here) describing how rizz evolved into itself and is worth a listen. i just think that the entire concept is sweet, fun, and inventive. communal tables are turning up all over the place, in cafes, restaurants, etc. why not get people chit chatting like this? on these seats? enjoy!

38 & bocci.
38 is this amazing sprawling chandelier. bocci is the company who offers it. stunning is what they are combined...
bocci is based out of vancouver canada with a satellite space in berlin germany. bocci is about glass blowing, glass casting, ceramics & metal sand casting and creating original and provocative design in a cooperative community of designers.
bocci states that "even though our pieces focus on the more emotional, irrational and romantic shades of the contemporary design spectrum, we are deeply committed to rigorous and intelligent execution." this particular line which bocci titles "38" is one of my favorites. each sphere is hand-blow but during the process leaves many white cavities haphazardly throughout the glass, some deep enough to house the lighting component, some deep enough to house earth and plants. so fun!
my mind went nuts while viewing these. it went from indoor to outdoor installations. i see them in both residential and commercial spaces. they are dreamy, romantic, special and unique. they certainly set or evoke a particular mood or stance. enjoy!

uhuru.
in 2004, rhode island school of design graduates jason horvath and bill hilgendorf founded uhuru (ooh-HOO-roo). uhuru is a brooklyn new york based "multidisciplinary design studio merging avant-garde design with a commitment to environmental sustainability." that's in their words. plus they have the most amazing furniture. that's in my words...
i could go on to describe jason & bill's process, how they conceive of their designs and what uhuru means to them, but they say it better. have a listen...
enjoy!

simply styled christmas decor.
happy monday friends, and the countdown to christmas begins...
(via)
i've been taking a walk in the early evening just about every night. i love it because homes, decorated for christmas, look different and so beautiful in the evening. i wonder how they are decorated inside when the outside is so perfectly executed style-wise.
simple christmas styling is my preferred look, hints of greens, minimalistic and quiet (especially with the hectic of christmas everywhere!). i like these random spaces this morning...just saying. enjoy your day!
