shoppe: amber interiors

man oh man, i love when i stumble upon a new to me shop chock full of about a million things i really want...

california-based interior designer amber lewis opened her online shoppe in 2012. amber has always enjoyed mixing vintage with modern in her interior design (a woman/designer after my own heart) and she has transitioned that love of each into her site (ahem, that 1970's brazilian gerdau leather sling chair, pure love!).

i found i was saving image after image and having to pair down what i posted about. i love eclectic choices, of style, of period, of materials, all of that. it makes for interesting spaces, it makes for an interesting on line shoppe. enjoy!

a formal office, sort of.

if is were asked to design the interior of a rather formal office, an office setting where you just can't go too off target with furnishings, i would definitely look at some of what t gebruder offers up. there is just a touch of informal, a touch of edge exuding from each piece. and i love that...

when writing about their pieces, sites such as architonic nail it when they say that t gebruder combines "art and technology into a formal unit." t gebruder also states that they "produce expressive pieces of contemporary history known as the new objectivity." pretty darn cool.

t gebruder is known as thonet throughout europe with some of their work designed by michael thonet. i just really like the added flair each piece offers an otherwise formal office space. a reminder in some respects, to not take the day too seriously, in the end. enjoy!

yabu pushelberg.

george yabu and glenn pushelberg are toronto/new york based yabu pushelberg. and their furniture line? will captivate you...

and they are not just designing furniture, they are transforming both residential and commercial spaces. see more of their interior work here. when discussing their foundation, there was one line i loved that reads:"the best projects, after all, are those that are invented."

it's so difficult to be original. it's so difficult to take all that you have been influenced by and do something completely new, fresh and that makes your own mark. it's a big world out there, chock full of a so many talented people. so when you come across something/someone/product design that stops you, and you know it's/they/or what they are doing, is original, that's a find. that's yabu pushelberg. enjoy!

less is more.

i've been super drawn to the less is more approach, in not only designing interior spaces, but in spending time in them...

i feel that, as every year passes, i find myself avoiding clutter more, and more, and more. but how do you define what the right minimalistic space really is? and how do you accomplish that look or final space without it being cold, or boring even? i think it's in the touches, the color palettes, the subtle nuances about every (and barely any) piece that you incorporate into the space, whether it be a residential or commercial space. every single placed piece has to count, for something.

have you noticed your tastes changing? are you drawn to a more minimalistic look or do you crave more, more stuff, more color, more in general? i'd love to hear...enjoy!

california home tour.

lonny magazine recently featured the AMAZING home of designer tamara kay honey. did you see it?

and i dont' usually post so many images in one post. but i couldn't stop. and there's MORE, here. tamara captured an incredible warmth in this home with touches of shiny and brushed golds & brass throughout the entire home, hanging & leaning eclectic artwork large and small and focusing often on textural elements...then there's the intentional mixture of old and new (my favorite way to design any space) which in my opinion, keep the entire home, interesting.

tamara is from canada, and in the lonny article she states that despite now living in california, with very different temperatures than canada, "sheepskins and furry rugs remain a staple." tamara also says that it's not uncommon for her children to come home from school to find many rooms moved all around in a very "alice in wonderland" sort of way. fun. tamara's style is warm and comfortable. she likes pieces with scratches or "wrinkles" as she call them for they "reflect a well-lived life." this home is so well done. enjoy!

stylized seating.

a number of years ago, i began putting together inspiration books/boards for the design of a coffee/wine bar i wanted to open. i definitely knew i wanted exceptional seating, out of the ordinary and frankly a bit edgy and off beat or even a little wild....

there are a number or companies/designers that offer that. i filed images away, cut out particular product from books, pasted them here and there, it was fun. i wanted people to walk through the door and be wowed. there are not many places that wow me, and i wanted that. and if i was going to do it, it was going to DO IT!

the italian company sedes regia might have been one of those seating companies i would have bookmarked. their seating is out of this world, exceptional and just, wow. sometimes you are after wow and there are companies like sedes regia that bring it. you know what i mean? happy friday friends! enjoy...

an apartment tour, oh & that i love...

it's not often i feature and entire home tour. there are homes where i really love one room or the other, but not always the entire home. this is a home where not only do i love every room, i love every inch of every room.
