raw edges.

i first came across the super innovative design team of raw edges on the contemporist site, which led me to their site, which led me to fall completely in love with this particular line of dyed wood furniture...
raw edges is really yael and shay who met in jerusalem and moved to london to study at the RCA. after not finding "proper" jobs, they began to play, with materials such as expandable foams and by cooking timber in boiling dyes. why not?

the playing led to designs like these. this "endgrain" collection "harnesses the grain of the wood in order to carry the dye right the way through sections of timber." ah, they do more than that here. the kaleidoscope effect, the mesmerizing swirling color patterns that seem endless and interesting in a constant form are pure magic. and let's not forget their overall design, how they have shaped the wooden table or seat. stunning and classically modern.

you can read more about their process here. OH! and one of the signs hanging in their workshop reads: "you know more than you think you do." mantra for today folks! enjoy...
