and not to get all introspective on you (bare with me it has been raining for a few days in a row this week...so...) for the past year or so (probably even longer now) i've been feeling impatient at wanting more. and in some ways it's been hard to stay positive, about specific things, to be an optimist all of the time is after all more than a full time job. though i am fairly consistently optimistic a greater part of the time, it's still hard. sometimes.

and don't get me wrong...i've accomplished alot as of late, my graduate degree, recovering from the loss of 2 parents in 2 years. but in between all of that, after all of that, i'm ready for more...in the way of positive things, events, relationships, feelings, rewards. should i feel guilty for wanting more? after all, the word connotes images/thoughts of greed, lust, want. but after you work so hard at things, at life in general, sometimes you feel that you want more, that it is your time. you know? just saying.

words for thought going into this weekend...maybe i just needed to say them to myself. i hope that wherever you go this weekend, whatever you do, you enjoy it, more.

great spaces.

the spaces we spend time in, that we interact in, that we choose to be in are important. and spaces that offer a communal experience, of sharing, interacting and being with others is equally important, and special.

i love, this afternoon, this ladybug line offered up by bruhl, and in smacking bright yellow.

if you are in the market for color, intense, vibrant color, paired with modern design based on classic lines, bruhl has that. they have alot of that.

bruhl states that this ladybug line is a dream, that it's the perfect lounging ensemble. and it sure looks like it. enjoy!

erik remmers level coffee table.

i've always loved when designers choose to mix materials, mediums, and utilizing wood and metal together is always a plus. there is something all the more interesting about pieces comprised of a mixture of really great textures. don't you think so?

the contemporist recently featured designer erik remmer and his "level" coffee tables. choose either a lower level table or higher. the legs are set against a natural wood tone in bright colors, straight and strong yet the rounded bottom, the way in which they approach the ground, the way in which each table sits, is light and soft.

eric's work is featured on designstudio vandaag's site here.  i imagine these tables, sprinkled around a really great exterior commercial setting, an outdoor hotel lounge area perhaps, at all different heights. the scene would be inviting, and interesting to be sure. your drink would maybe taste a little bit more delicious placed on one of erik's tables. maybe...enjoy!

artisan, manually done.

so, these guys are cool. the company artisan is producing some amazing pieces, it's where old school meets new. artisan produces super high-quality furniture manually. that's right...manually.

in describing artisan's process of wood design, they use words such as "accentuated texture" and "critical moisture levels" and "elements in a traditional manner." pair this really interesting and important cultural design belief with absolutely stunning product and you have greatness. artisan is that, it's greatness. enjoy!

pretty styled vases.

as we are speaking about greens and the vessels that house them, let's go smaller this afternoon...

these pretty styled glass vases offered up by secondome (a cool gallery site started by a young italian architect named claudia pignatale) are just that, pretty. the top design, in a sort of necklace style, can be hung or placed. evocative of jewel containers, your cut flowers will seem all that more special. and why not...enjoy!

flora. boxed and elevated.

as far as planters go this summer, these 2 new styles offered up by flora have my attention...

the top style planter is flora's "elevated" line. designer arik levy conceptualized the idea of the individual being entrenched in a green oasis, being more face to face with plants, elevating them to a more prominent and present place and space.

the "box" line of planters is just plain having fun with planter design. designer michael koenig added casters to the bottom of his box planter, so that you can easily mobilize these guys, perfect for residential or commercial spaces. and what's better than beautiful flora appearing to pop out as a truly green surprise for spring and summer? not much i tell ya. enjoy!

pilke pendants.

happy monday morning friends! it's another fresh start to a brand new week. i wanted to share these pilke pendant lamps with you today. and because they are from finland they strike a personal chord with me...

my best friend lives in finland. she was born and raised there. i visited her a few years back and i swear that if i didn't have responsibilities here at home, i might have stayed indefinitely.

the one thing i loved about finland is the simple way fins took complex shapes and formed them into modern geometric possibilities, utilizing traditional finnish techniques. from christmas ornaments to lamps, the fins know how to decorate.

these pilke lamps, offered up by showroom finland are evocative of what i have come to know and love about finland and about the way fins decorate. constructed from numerous plywood parts, these lamps are a mix, somewhere in the middle, between traditional and ultra modern finnish design. what makes them even more interesting is the fact that designer tuukka halonen has accomplished preserving tradition while at the same time tempting us directly into the future. and making amazing lamps in between. i love that. enjoy!

these are fun. these floral wallpapers, whimsical yet wild, energetic and complex in pattern. sabine rohse's papers are bold, graphic and would make a super fun addition to any space, residential or commercial...even if only on one single wall.

i lately fluctuate between striving for more subdued spaces, calm, sparse, white, all white...to feeling as if i'd be missing out by denying myself at least one bold piece in my space, one bold wall, one wow something in my space. this sabine rohse wallpaper would do that. for sure! enjoy...

inspired by the sun.

this almost friday morning, i'm inspired by summer, by the colors of summer. by the sun.

particular pieces capturing my summer attention are this "3angle" chair offered up by kvadra and designed by grupa & this glowing orange "tr12" pendant light designed and offered up by tom rossau. each evocative of the warmth the summer naturally offers, the spirit it presents and puts us in. orange can do that. and really great designers can do that too. enjoy!

a wide window.

a curious couch.

the really great gblog featured this curious "poppins" couch and it's designer alessandra baldereschi recently.

kimberly li of gblog offers that as it can be a bit tedious to re-arrange, place or deal with throw pillows scattered across your favorite seating area, so alessandra baldereschi created an alternative. in which the throw pillows (or parts and pieces of them) are placed within the couch. permanently. never moving, never shifting, they are there. no matter what.

i think that the idea is certainly cool and the couch becomes rather sculptural as a creative result, but...i would have a hard time never changing out the look & feel of my throw pillows. i do indeed have a pillow problem. i've freely admitted that here on this blog. so this couch may be a very interesting addition to seating spaces, residential or commercial, but they never take the place of finding just the right pillow for your couch. then doing it again next week ;) enjoy!
