this space stopped me this afternoon. all of that white is balanced with peeks of color. in the exposed brick to the copper pendant lamp, to the addition of natural greens and softly colored flowers. books can also be a great color addition as well as a textural addition to your spaces. they warm them. they warm all of this white. the perfect amount.

inspired hand-made furniture.
this saturday morning, i'm enjoying the decadent style of what amy somerville offers. amy's designs cross the boundaries between lines of precision to curves of sensuality. amy boasts of "adding depth and soul to the contemporary." she does that by employing a variety of textures, shapes, patterns and rich color palettes. and she does that all very well.
i very much enjoy coming across artists/designers who teeter on the cusp of cutting edge, or in fact tease us with a particular edginess, yet their designs stand the test of time. they are timeless. their beauty and design please us, endlessly. amy's designs do that.
how is your saturday starting off? i'm sipping coffee at my favorite french cafe this morning. recovering from being battered by sleet, rain and snow for days and crossing my fingers that the sun comes out...i hope you enjoy!

leather & brass. lighting that is...
this line of "crush" pendant lighting offered up by simon hasan has my heart skipping a beat. plus he's paired leather & brass. so, now it's racing...
here's a little bit about how these lights are crafted and where the inspiration comes from: "this lamp uses a 15th century crafts process where leather is moulded and hardened through the careful application of moisture and heat, resulting in a semi-structural material with a patinaed finish. the crushed leather is inspired by the action of hydraulic presses and contrasts with the refined mirror polished brass reflector. Slight variations in tone and shape evidence the hand-crafted nature of this item."
there is something so pure and so beautiful and wonderful about pairing these two materials, mediums. add in great design and you have something special. you have crush pendant lights.
hey friends, have a great weekend why don't ya! what are you up to? i'm researching for a paper that i have due soon. in between planting myself at starbucks or the library, i hope to sip some red wine, sleep a little late and breeaaathe...enjoy!

vases & vessels. as light as air.
happy friday friends! in hopes of spring, and daydreaming of gardening, flowers and all things pretty, i've stumbled upon some amazing vases & vessels as of late. and they, while all unique, exquisitely sculptural and individually interesting, all equally appear to be as light as air...
(1 2 3 4 5 6)
each vase comes from a special designer, artist or site. click on the corresponding numbers above if any interest you and want to seek them out, or more of where that came from.
i've decided this year that peonies are going to be a current theme in my spaces. they are my absolute favorite flower. now, just to decide on a favorite vase or vessel. it's also fun to mix them up. and that's more my style anyway.
do you have a favorite holding place or space for your flowers? i'd love to hear...enjoy!

can you imagine?
so take a safety ladder, add some carnival lights and what do you get? yup...an amazing, out of the ordinary, chandelier. why what else were you thinking?
well anyway, that's what studio bertjan pot did. this custom chandelier was commissioned for a theater cafe not far from bertjan pot's studio. and you can get one too, and in 3 different sizes, 4 steps, 6 steps & 8 steps. depending on the impact you need or want to make, as if the chandelier alone isn't enough...enjoy!

viaduct. one stop shopping.
think of designers such as arne jacobsen, and companies such as pastoe and e15, then think of them collected, right there on display, pretty as a picture pieces, all on one site. viaduct.
the dictionary explains that a viaduct is a "bridge for carrying a road," or "a valley or the like, consisting of a number of short spans." well then think of them, viaduct the company, of that short span to everything designer fabulous. everything designer unique. everything your heart desires.
the pieces i've selected for today's post are only a snippet of everything i either liked, wanted or would have been pulled kicking and screaming from the store if i had left without them. just a snippet. to see bigger snippets, go there. or here. so there...enjoy!

flexi lights by faro.
these are fun this mid~week afternoon. these "flexi" lights offered up by the spanish company, faro.
the fact that these lights can be manipulated, directed & shaped makes them fun. the fact that they come in materials such as polycarbonate, acrylic and steel and colors like fuchsia, makes them even more fun.
how is your wednesday afternoon friends? i'm trying to muster energy after a late class last night in boston. it's also grey and raining today in my part of the world so another reason for my sluggish mood. even though i'm tired, i'm thinking a run might do the trick and give me a boost. i hope you are feeling energetic and inspired today...enjoy!

georgiana's pillows.
so most of you know by now about my pillow problem. the fact that i could literally have a year's supply stored away somewhere in my home, in some sort of pillow closet, to change pillows out every. single. day. there's that many very cool & beautiful & unusual pillows out there. and pillows can offer your couch, a chair, your bed, an instant facelift.
i discovered these pillows, handmade by georgiana paraschiv, as my latest addition to my pillow problem.
georgiana's inspiration comes from simple shapes, complex designs & unusual color combinations. they're graphic, they're not, they're fun and they're like little puffy pieces of art.
these 3 were only a few of my favorites. georgiana sells a whole bunch more over at society 6. go there, here, and have a look. if you don't already have a pillow problem like me, you'reprobably about to start ;) enjoy...

spiderman & limbo.
a current favorite of mine are these two fabric options offered up by saum & viebahn named spiderman and limbo.
saum & viebahn's motto is to enjoy life. they create "fresh color combinations" with mischievous all over zig-zag patterns, tempting you to be bold, to go for something different, a little bit daring when re-upholstering a favorite piece, to raise your spirits to some sort of new fabric level yet achieved.
ok, maybe i'm going overboard here. we are only talking about fabric here. but they are gorgeous. if you are unfamiliar with their product line, you should acquaint yourself. you'll be happy you did...enjoy!

mater. ethical living.
if one of the things you enjoy about design or purchasing designed pieces is its commitment to sustainable ways, materials and just an honest approach to keeping it real, to keeping it local or at least supporting local, then you'll really like this company, mater and the product line it offers. here are a few of my current favorites...
so this is what they do. mater and founder henrik marstrand specifically approach materials and design like this. they understand that some products have a "small environmental bearing" while others "consume finite resources in vast quantities." so they avoid that.
mater focuses on ethical criteria's while "creating sensual, timeless and durable pieces." and you just can't get much better than that. that sense and sensibility is to be applauded and supported. at least i think so. plus, when a company like mater, with a fabulous product line supporting an amazing outlook is combined? bonus! enjoy...

lowness.
this afternoon, i really like all of the lowness going on in this space. from the low eclectic nightstands to the height of the bed, to the drippy, draped bed skirt, flowing softly onto the hard floor. it's just pure bedroom goodness that's all.

how are you this afternoon? hanging in there? good! me too ;) enjoy...

happy monday & bright beads lights.
hey for this monday friends! i hope you had a really great weekend too! i'm still with computer problems but am managing to have fun this week with a few posts on borrowed computers.
today i wanted to share with you this amazing line of lighting, bright beads, offered up by marz. they are wooden, they are handcrafted in an amazing way and they are yours. if you want them...i do!
what's even more cool about these lights, other than the fact that they are just plain gorgeous mind you, is that they are crafted from fsc timbers and you can (well, they...) will construct your very own light (or lights should you desire bunches of these) with a combination of styles, wooden beads and personal lengths to boot!
so what's not to love. and i like this monday so far. i woke up to a beautiful sunrise. the sun is still out. and that my friends can just about make my day.
i hope you too are feeling good about this monday. ;) enjoy...
