ulf moritz.

i'm crazy over this wallpaper below, how perfect to have it be so imperfect.

another great find from my perusing of living etc. magazine this month. the photo they featured was of this first photo here where the wallpaper appears to have been creased on purpose. a light bulb went off and i thought...how fun to not worry about the wallpaper creasing as you hung it but rather use those creases as design, texture and depth allowing the light to play off of the different lines and flat spaces on the wall. genius. ulf moritz' credo is "to create wallcoverings like they have not been seen before. the highly decorated designer belongs without doubt to the most creative minds in the business." the site i found him featured on was sourceone where they list products by several designers like moritz. sourceone specializes in bringing you the ultimate in fabrics and wallcoverings. in reading more, they invite designers who use ulf moritz or other designers products in their process, to send photos of your finished work, thus promoting you perhaps? what a great idea, then the art, the product will have come full circle. great site, fabulous products! go quickly to sourceone...

blu dot.

for those about to rock...the first piece I zeroed in on from blu dot was their buttercup rocking chairs. they come in a variety of colors and i loved the fact that the top of the chair doesn't seem to match the bottom...another words they look like you took 2 different chairs and sort of put them together. organic, fluid shaped white oak and walnut on the top, brushed stainless steel base, at the base. fun, funky and inviting. blu dot founded by 3 guys seeking to furnish their after college first homes and becoming very unhappy at what they were seeing for style and price. born in 1997, blu dot states that "Our goal is to bring good design to as many people as possible. We like to think that the form is almost inevitable, a by-product of the process. Our job is simply to help it emerge as beautifully and as efficiently as possible." house and garden (currently the new sister mag, domino) goes on to say that blu dot is "the latest in affordable cool." and alexandra lange of metropolis magazine sums it up with "running concurrently with blu dot's high seriousness about utility, affordability, modernity… is a strain of high ridiculousness." is blu dot the new ikea? supplying more furniture for your home at a low cost? not sure but looking through their site, i'm sure there is a piece here and there that will grab your attention.

kathleen hills and bone china.

these bone china pendant lights are simply perfect.

i love these pin cushion lights above, perfect for on top of a bureau or desk.

how precious are these egg stands with peeks of the china patterns in the slots.

'Since graduating from
The Royal College of Art in 2002, Kathleen Hills’ work has acquired quite a following. the crafts council has promoted her work and earlier this year, cate blanchett commissioned a lighting installation for her home. Hills trades under the company name multi- make a note of it, it’s going to be big.' i first noticed kathleen's work in the september issue of living etc. the september issue i really couldn't put down, i was drawn to everything in it. i'm sure i'll post about many of the design ideas, items and artists throughout this month here and there. kathleen hills was featured for her bone china disc light. i loved the simplicity, the texture bone china has, the old fashioned-ness of the material used, simply perfect. in reading about her and her technique she appears to be gaining much press and notoriety. she teaches, creates beautiful tableware service for weddings, messages are added to your present and delivered to your door. kathleen is also lending her work commercially. check her site out, great gift ideas or additions of simply beautiful home accessories for yourself.

merci oh wonderful blog world.

happy friday and weekend everyone! i wanted to end this week with a few comments on how much fun i'm having blogging and babbling away in this world we're in. this week in particular i've discovered so many new, talented, interesting, thoughtful, inspiring and dynamic people and blogs that it has sent me whirling! a while back i owned my own chocolate shop and met a range of fabulous people. i was prompted by one of my customers to blog. first of all i thought the word blog was hilarious and thought wow...who has time for such a thing and why in the world would anyone want to blog? well, well my friends once i started there's no stopping, i'm having a time of it and loving every minute. my blog is a creative outlet for me, exploring other blogs opens the doors to inspiration, friendships and drives me to be more creative, more inspired and a better person to be honest. a delicious blogger (visit her blog and you'll see what i mean by delicious) called rtemis, "huntress of epicurean delights" had a great motto at the bottom of her blog...i'd like to quote her or should i say quote her quote: My New Motto
"The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me." ~Ayn Rand

so friends and fellow creative minds, i'll leave you to this weekend with that thought and inspiration of which i was truly intrigued and filled with much needed energy!

about architonic.

with my lighting addiction, this site offers enough for a lifetime of ogling!

how exciting is this material for walls, and that's just one!

some samples of wall treatments below, so many textures, so little time.

this is glass below, inlayed with dried flowers, you should see what else they do with glass...

edi over at her blog on edisfiles first told me about architonic. ok, so if i'm the first person who didn't know about them i'm 3 shades of red right now. but in case your someone like me who didn't know about how amazing this company is then this is for you too! where do i start? i guess at the beginning...architonic is a provider, a wealth of information for large architectural firms to private homeowners and everyone in between in search of the latest materials, products and designs, "always up to date, impartial and selective." i felt i had struck gold while looking around their site at the ultimate possibilities from wall treatments (and i'm not talking about curtains or mirrors) to lighting to furniture. from wood to stone, glass, fabric, plastic, ceramic, linoleum to paper and cardboard the list is endless. you can order flip books by designers, products and materials, keeping an up to date library of the latest, the newest and the best for your designing or building needs. spend some time looking through architonic, open your mind to the possibilities...what would you create?

fun accessories from show.

these 2 pieces below from "scrapile" are featured at show. another great link to an interesting site!

love this mirror mirror on the wall mirror, telling you how beautiful you are! how fun?

instant art for your table below:

antler sconces, strange but kind of fun! they have table top lamps too, in case you needed more antler lights that is...

show, "a modern lifestyle store located in los angeles' los feliz village, features a stylish array of international design." they feature an ever changing collection of wallpaper, furniture, accessories, housewares and more! a fun little company to peruse when you are searching for the out of the ordinary for your home or office. they have a great link to scrapile which is a fabulous company out of brooklyn new york. scrapile is a collaborative effort of designers bart bettencourt and carlos salgado who "have a unique method of collecting and repurposing discarded scraps of wood from new york's woodworking industry." so i suppose i'm featuring 2 companies today, both worth checking out for their own unique possibilities!

bold furniture.

"i am obsessed with living environments. i build furniture in which form is as important as its function. too often furniture is viewed as primarily functional, when in reality it is used no differently than a sculpture. i build furniture that is distinctive, furniture that doesn't blend into the background, furniture that stands out for it's beauty and uniqueness." this fresh, clean, modern line from lavassa based out of new york and more specifically crafted by peter harrison offers pieces as sculpture first, functional furniture second. peter has also created a line of wall sculpture to mimic his furniture line going so far as to say yes this is sculpture, as if you can't tell. streamlined, gorgeous, breathtaking. simply beautiful. in any room it would be that one of a kind piece, a conversation piece. i love his use of texture and material blending beautiful woods, metal (i love metal) and organic shapes and lines. in any setting they direct you, they invite you to admire, use and talk about each piece. be the first on your block to pick up a piece of lavassa furniture!

beauty from graham and green to start your week.

perusing through a london interior design magazine, alot of what graham and green offer caught my eye and my breath. love it love it love it! so to simply start this week, to ease into it from our lazy long weekend off, i figured i'd share some easy on the eyes beauty from this fabulous company. i have to say i was really captured by their mirrors, and it's sort of hard these days to find mirrors that you'd actually be able to hang and think wow...these are non-typical and beautiful to look into and to look at, at the same time. graham and green also love metal, bone inlay and mirror effects in designing and finding their furniture. they travel the globe in search of pieces to purchase or ideas to design with. "now in it's 34th year, antonia, jamie and louise offer a passion for design and buying allowing them to offer a unique sense of style through their successful lifestyle and website." i swear just looking through their website alone, one could pull together an entire house!
