artist feature: rogan brown

artist rogan brown's complex hand cut paper sculptures are desperately breathtaking, to say the least...

i wanted to share this description of rogan's work and process from an interview and feature with this is colossal: "rogan just completed work on his latest paper artwork titled outbreak, a piece he describes as an exploration “of the microbiological sublime.” over four months in the making, the work depicts an array of interconnected sculptures—entirely hand cut from paper—based on the smallest structures found within the human body: cells, microbes, pathogens, and neurons. outbreak represents nearly four months of tedious planning, cutting and assembly. he shares about his process:

"i am inspired in part by the tradition of scientific drawing and model making, and particularly the work of artist-scientists such as ernst haeckel. but although my approach involves careful observation and detailed “scientific” preparatory drawings, these are always superseded by the work of the imagination; everything has to be refracted through the prism of the imagination, estranged and in some way transformed."

just wow. see more of rogan's work here and enjoy!

artist feature: tom abbiss smith

i'm drawn today to the fresh, abstract & exploratory shapes and forms built up by artist tom abbiss smith...
matisse-esque in nature and design, tom abbiss smith "through both contemporary and traditional techniques such as digital collage, printmaking and painting" offers up a mixed color palette of pattern filled pieces.

tom works in many mixed medium ways, from wrapping paper to photography, but his collages are my absolute favorite. see more of tom's works here & enjoy!

tania rollond's ceramics

australian artist tania rollond is creating a line of ceramics that will stop you. originally concentrating in graphic design, tania realized a true zest for working with clay, and in response earned a master's of fine arts in drawing.

pairing the two talents and passions, tania combines her very free yet beautiful command of the use of line with her natural design sense of color and pattern combinations. the result is a fresh line of sculptural ceramics that to me, are like no other...
if you have time, take in this video by tania. she divulges her own artistic process in such a way that is seriously inspiring to all of us who are artistically inclined. enjoy!
