i've had a nutty week at work but have taken a long weekend off, much needed! i hope to work on some writing, get a couple of runs in and move slooooooow. sometimes it's hard to intentionally move slow, at least for me. so here's to trying and cheers to the weeekend!

eclectic new furniture love

i catalog alot of new to me furniture finds. and at times i save a special place in my files for designers who push the boundaries, ever so slightly, or ok, sometimes they really test the typical in design (which i LOVE). i thought i'd share a few fun new finds, in case you are in the market for a particular or unusual wow piece for your residential or commercial space...

there is alot to love about this company gan. they are india-based and offering up a number of products made by hand, "gently"...super textural items that "become a system of shapes and volumes that redefine the concept of habitability."

gan works in india developing local economies wherever they present, they are also an active participant in "child protection programs and sponsor a women's development project in a rural setting." don't you love all of that?

i was first drawn to the bold, perfectly over-thick textural element to most of gan's pieces. they offer a particular warmth in pattern and bring a reminder of natural sensibilities to spaces. see more of what gan offers up here, & enjoy!

i'm starting this book, this weekend (ny times review) can't wait. i have also been in a perfume slump, hardly wearing any for the last few years as everything is starting to smell the same to me. unexpectedly someone i know share this with me and i actually really liked it. never saw that coming.

i'm hoping to get in more outdoor runs (this is exceptional running weather), get creative with some home made pizza making this weekend and look for a new t.v. series to sink my chops into. i hope that your weekend is everything that you want it to be! and it's friday, so some fun finds from around the world wide web:

monday & tokyo tribal

i'm just in love with this tokyo tribal line by the japanese design studio nendo...

the collection is designed exclusively for industry+ and features 22 items including stools, chairs, tables & shelves. the entire line is constructed from a variety of interesting and unusual materials such as oak, volcanic sand plaster, and hand-woven bamboo rattan from the philippines.

and in keeping the sizes of each piece relatively compact, nendo accomplishes the design goal of "creating a sense of a small and tightly knit tribe, greater and better than the sum of its parts." (how great is that!?) i adore the visual effect accomplished through weaving and pattern creation. & the textural component each piece adds is interesting on the eye. the character of each piece, that feeling of old meets new allows for pieces to wear into any space well. the chairs are my absolute favorite, but they are all so stunning. enjoy!

austrian-based nina mair, who i have featured on the blog in the past, offers up so many super unique options for your home or commercial spaces (see more of nina mair's selection here), but today i'm drawn to their pairing of brass with materials such as soft, rose leathers, beechwood, & glossy MDF board. the combinations are intoxicating. i want one of each of these...
