sunday & angelique kidjo.

when my son was little, and as we drove in the car, i wore out bob marley & the wailers cd's. it was all he wanted to listen to. funny how such young people can already be drawn to very specific sounds & styles of music. i love this version today, already dancing around the house to it...

enjoy!

out with the whales.

i seem to be posting less about design this week and more about summer. if you'll indulge me, here are a few (and, ahem, i took a alot a ton more than this!) images of my day with the whales yesterday...
it was seriously one of those picture perfect days for boating, and whale watching. clear, calm, clear...so the whales were very easy to spot and to really see detail. they were known in the area to the boat's captain, he knew their names. some had calves, some were resting, some were playful. it was a perfect day on the water.

and i have to say, being out there, as cliche as it seems, with no cell phone, no computer to check, nothing but watching, listening, breathing, well man oh man it did me wonders. it was actually quite theraputic. maybe i'm in the wrong profession i thought at times, (half jokingly, half not). maybe out on the water is where it's at? well it was for me, if only for one day. enjoy!

have a great monday!

i'm off today, and so is my son. so...we are headed out on a whale watch cruise to see what we can see...
(via)
my camera battery is charging and if we (cross our fingers!) see beaucoup amounts of whales and who knows what else, i'll be sharing for sure.

to start your week, here are a few fun things from around the web i spotted over the weekend.

imagine if your hotel balcony looked like this?

i think these are pretty enough to leave on all summer.

these would make interesting coffee tables.

a cool paris apartment.

loving these high tops.

a clever storage rack.

um, now that's a skylight.

33 incredible hammocks (loving #6, and #9).

going old fashioned on bathing suit style.

a perfect summer couch.

these (at least to me!) look delish!

today life feels pretty fantastic. have a great start to your week everyone! enjoy...

hello friday!

i hope that you have a great friday, and an even better weekend!
(via)
what are you up to? anything fun? i won tickets on a radio station to this event. it sounds spectacular and perfect in remembering my dad this weekend as he worked with flowers all of his life. it would make for a beautiful father's day even though he can't be with me.

i'll be sure to take some photos and share them next week. hmmm, sipping champagne, listening to jazz music and viewing all of those amazing gardens and flower arrangements? sounds perfect. i hope that you have the best weekend ever! enjoy!

monday and isi.

i hadn't planned on stopping at a yard sale yesterday but there it was, on my way down to spend a couple of hours on the beach. the chairs stopped me, they were cast metal, off white and simulated bamboo. oh and they swivelled. cool right? they were part of a set of 4 with a table. my deck is tiny, so i only needed 2. she would not part with just 2. darn.
so my summer chair search continues. this spanish line offered up by isi stopped me today. the lines, the fun sherbet colors, the simplicity yet loungability of them (yes i made up that word). they are just kind of perfectly cool, the whole line. i thought i'd share them this monday!

how was your weekend? i discovered that my favorite fried fish restaurant (conveniently within walking distance from my house) makes amazing fish tacos with a spicy yogurt dressing, grilled corn, fresh tomatoes, & cabbage. not. even. funny. delish. so. i ate one for lunch and took my son straight back there for dinner after his summer job ended. 2 fish tacos in one day? that's what i'm talking about. have a great start to a brand new week friends. enjoy!

my graduation day.

if you are interested, i'd thought i'd share just a few snippets of my harvard graduation that took place last thursday. it was a day to remember to say the least...
my son was taking photos and i seemed to be waving at him every chance i got, which was fun! i'm not sure where to start about how i was feeling that day either, but proud is definitely one word i would choose. getting to this point, of finally receiving my graduate degree was at times, fulfilling, at times daunting, and at times it seemed as if it was never going to happen.

someone asked me the other day, (a woman who was thinking of going back to college), how did i do it? how did i do it while working, while life gets in the way, or just how did i have the energy or determination to start, never mind go through all of the work and finish? the only answer i could offer was that you have to want it. but then i started thinking about that statement and it's true of everything right? to get to the position job-wise in life that you want to be? to end up in particular relationships that you want to be in? to just get to all of those places that you want to be, you have to plain want it. once you get to that point, of truly wanting something, all of the other stuff in life somehow stays on the outskirts, on the peripheral.

maybe i'll be able to clarify more at some point how i'm feeling right now. but for now, i'll leave you with what i wrote in my harvard thesis acknowledgement: "i want to thank harvard university, for i have never before been as nervous, inspired, enthused, and tested with regard to my education. i feel privileged to have spent every minute of the day and night in the presence of my harvard professors. to have spent many hours on the grounds of an institution that has educated presidents and many of the world's most innovative and provocative scholars, philanthropists, and changers of the world, i am forever honored."

enjoy!

here's to the weekend!

happy friday friends, have a super relaxing weekend too!
(via)
it's been another whirlwind week.

but here's to things i'm looking forward to: my graduate graduation is next week. on that note, i'm staying overnight in boston that night, eating at my favorite restaurant, and just taking it all in.

the weather is (sort of) warming up in my part of the world, i'm looking forward to morning runs as the sun comes up (and waving each morning to an elderly gentleman who sits in his car, in the same spot, ever. single. morning. to watch the sun rise.) it wouldn't be my morning run without him waving to me.

my son is home from college so i'm sucking up lots of time with him.

i've discovered this, THE best chocolate chip cookie recipe. i'm NOT kidding, this comes out completely perfect. EVERY TIME. (even the chocolate chips are nice and large, and the chocolate is such good quality). i make the dough every sunday lately (i know right?) and leave the dough covered in the fridge for the week and make them at will in the oven. (i know right?). yeah.

i'm feeling strung out and invigorated at the same time lately. is that strange? i don't know. i guess it's what is invigorating you that's important.

so here's to the weekend! to you! to all of us! enjoy...

the weekend!

this month is starting out beyond words busy, like i said i think everything and everyone is kicking into high gear all around me...
(via)
i came home during the middle of the day yesterday and layed straight out on my tiny deck with no furniture...i layed right there on the deck, on the wood, flat as a pancake and just felt the sun on my face for a while. sometimes it's the simple things that get you through the day.

i'm picking up my son from college today, and plan on driving slow and listening to some music to get in the weekend mood on the way up. what do you have planned? anything fun?

it's almost getting instantly warm here so i'll already be changing a few winter to summer clothes around, but thankfully of course! i feel like i need a giant dinner soon to rejuvenate, so that's on the menu too. wherever you go, whatever you do, enjoy!
