monday impact

why not start of the week with some impact furniture? i have just the line, offered up by the french luxury design line of hervé van der straeten, chock full of "bold variations of form, contrasting materials and defiant, pure volumes"....

hervé van der straeten first became known for his jewelry design and collection...but has since gained considerable attention for his works in bronze, glass, porcelain as well as a variety of other exquisite materials incorporating those into a very special furniture and lighting design line.

in my opinion there are times when designing residential or commercial interiors, that the space actually begs for a wow piece, something special to take center stage, or to ground the space, or to throw it off, perfectly. hervé van der straeten's designs are simply wow, in material, in design, in the overall presence each offers to any space. i love that! enjoy...

retegui & marble

i'm not typically drawn to marble as a design medium, i often find it too hard and cold. but the french design company retegui softens it somehow, everything that they create is quietly, softly, stunning...

atelier areti

austrian/french sisters gwendolyn and guillane kerschbaumer are the architects/designers behind the amazing atelier areti...

each with impressive academic and creative backgrounds, (read more about the sisters here) they set up their own design studio after working with several prestigious architects and design offices both in europe and the u.s. atelier areti is primarily london-based but collaborates often with master craftsmen and manufacturers in germany and sweden.

from their use of fine materials such as white marble, oak and polished brass and glass, each piece is both sculptural and decadently functional. i've highlighted a small list of my favorites in this post, (those marble and oak side tables!) and had to stop with those as there are so many pieces that will truly stop you from atelier areti. see more of what they offer here. luxury items to be sure, but so worth it. enjoy!

furnified

the newly launched (2015) belgian-based furnified offers up some fresh, classically scandinavian designed furniture and home accessories that have my attention today...

furnified offers up a limited number of products focusing on small scale production and works with a variety of select belgian and dutch designers. furnified's product line is clean & classic, utilizing timeless and lasting materials such as marble, leather, oak and teak. furnified's sideboards in oak (here) and teak (here) are my favorite, so far that is! definitely a design company to keep frequent tabs on. enjoy!

evie group

i sort of stumbled on this site today, evie group, an australian-based "multidisciplinary design studio" established in 2010 by industrial designers alex gilmour and dominic chong (read more about the designers here)...

this "oliver" carrara & powder coated steel tray table is a serious favorite!

loving so many items in rose gold these days, and this "spun pendant" is no exception

i think that you could make anything in carrara marble and it would be distinctive. and so is this chevron marble tray (imagine this on your desk w/beautiful gold pens?!)

& these mirrored lids in rose gold, gold and bronze "hex boxes," again, great desk top items for a bit more glamorous storage of your paper clips.

alex and dominic's mission, as they state on their site, is "to create unique, timeless design that users enjoy for years to come." what i personally love about the pieces that they are creating is the overall exquisite & beautiful simple design, clean, crisp, confident yet utilizing equally as exquisite materials. that combination is resulting in an appealing line that does stand the test of time. plus they are just plain gorgeous. enjoy!
