(via)
i spent saturday on martha's vineyard, in edgartown, listening to david sedaris speak, here. between the boat ride over, the spectacular summer day, the sipping drinks with friends at lunch on a second floor outdoor deck overlooking chappaquiddick, um, my head and body want to remain in vacation mode. so, to ease into this summer monday, here are a few fun finds of recent. in case you are interested...

boutique homes. small hotels.

there are more and more unique vacation rental options popping up these days. boutique homes is one of them...
and don't get me wrong, there are still GREAT hotels out there, and you don't have to twist my arm twice to stay in one. let me tell ya! but...the days of clicking away through travel sites for hotels as your only option for a vacation stay are over.

lately i've been itchy to travel and stay somewhere that feels more like a home. or at least like someone else's home. with an outdoor sitting area or intimate pool. gardens or private balconies or patios. somewhat similar to airnb, i stumbled upon this site the other day, boutique homes, where, at your leisure, you can literally just scroll through places, spaces, and countries, sneaking peeks into homes, large or small that you might like to stay. boutique homes calls it "temporary housing for chic nomads." awesome.

the images above are from areas such as portugal, italy, and france. and there's more. LOTS MORE. and let me tell you, the prices? not even close to crazy. they are definitely within range of good to crazy good.

what's fun and what i love about sites like this are the possibilities...with so many people opening up their homes, you have so many more locations to spend quiet time, you can spread out over larger geographical areas, areas where hotels just can't occupy. i love that. are you dreaming now? me too. enjoy!

about maine.

so maine is one of those places that i could land, forever...
i took a short trip recently to northern maine. the landscape, THE VIEW!, is why i'm so incredibly drawn to maine. the town we stayed in was camden. there are mountains that build steps away from the rocky coastline. so you have the best of both worlds. right?

penobscot bay is vast, the ocean seems endless. and i love that. that view that continues to somewhere you can't see or know. i stayed here. and i already want to go back. or move. just kidding. not really! the staff was incredibly friendly, the food was spot on and the views, well those are why you are really there. this is THE BEST breakfast place in camden or maybe anywhere, boynton-mckay. not. even. funny. delish! it was funny too because as i figured the place out and how to order (you order in the back and it's on the honor system when you pay to leave, pretty cool!) i said to the cook "i'm not sure what i want yet, i've never been here before." he replied: "that's ok, neither have i." i cracked up.

we took a lobster tour boat (pulled up 3 lobsters!) drank wine from adirondack chairs, over and over again. and went to sleep and woke to the ocean every day. we never closed the slider door. i'll be back there soon. i sort of have to be. it's one of those places! enjoy...

checking in...

happy friday friends! last week for a few days i checked out! and it felt great...
(via, i forget!)

i went on a short road trip to northern maine. i sat alot. i ate (alot!), i breathed more than i had in what seemed like months. it. was. amazing. i took gobs of photos and will share some with you this weekend. what do i miss the most? the view. i think i must have sat staring at the view from my room/balcony so long that it must have seemed as if something was wrong with me. and i was different, i relaxed. imagine that.

so i'm just checking in now, hoping that your week had some amazing highlights as well. i'll be back to regular blogging next week. for now, have a super weekend ahead! enjoy...

have a summer weekend!

man oh man i've been soaking up summer this year...
(via)
and it's not like i haven't other years. but for some reason this year i've truly been trying to take in every minute, every last drop of sun, feeling warm breezes, running in the mornings as the sun rises. this year seems like it just has an extra special summer to it. i love that!

so get outside this weekend, in your part of the world, feel all of those things. in my part of the world, it doesn't last long. enjoy!

camps.

i've had the itch to get away, for a while now. and for some reason, even though i live in a resort area, where people travel from all around the world to come to my neck of the woods as their vacation destination, i want to get away in the middle of all of it...
(via)

especially after reading cup of jo's fire island post today. sometimes you don't even have to go far to change it up. sometimes a trip over a bridge, a short boat ride to another island, a quick road trip, all seems invigorating and refreshing. good for the mind and soul. don't you think?

so...my mind is in the planning stages. for now, here are a few campy, summery, beachy interiors that have my attention. places to rest, to fall asleep early, to just be quiet in. enjoy!

styling vacation inspiration.

lately, i'm living vicariously through lucy laucht's instagram feed...
the ways with which she styles everything, including vacation inspiration...you want to grab the most pertinent things and run out the door with your bikini top strings dangling behind you...

she also has an awesome blog, here and her pinterest site aint bad either! enjoy...

let's go to shobac.

ok people, you can rent these, these cottages in shobac nova scotia...
ah, yeah. either individually or rent all of them for a wedding or reunion? read more about them here. wow. the cottage connection in nova scotia calls this cottage cluster "a lost village at the end of the earth." a place i'd like to be, right about now. how about you? enjoy!

ancient to modern, in salento italy.

when this italian architect/designer couple were searching for a vacation home, away from their hectic home base of milan italy, they headed southeast, to salento, which some call the high heel in italy's boot...
at one time a 17th century oil mill, complete with original stone floors, walls and those amazing arches, the architect couple of ludovica serafini and roberto palombo knew the lines were there, and what they could do with them...

all of the washed out whites, the natural color palette introductions to each and every space leaves this modern vacation home sunny, warm and welcoming. another really great aspect of this article, which was featured on dwell, here, is that as designers, the couple also designed much of the furniture and you can read about each piece or where to find them for yourselves.

i LOVE this space. it is where i'll place my self today, imaginatively, as i day dream among freezing cold temperatures and a coating of snow on the ground. enjoy!
