now this is a cabin.

i saw this cabin recently over at selectism. it's designed by australian-based maddison architects, in moonah australia. it's full of angles, it's "decidedly modern" as the article reads and very stealth in it's overall appearance (plus a built in wine rack, score!)...
i also really like the height differential throughout. high and low meeting areas, it offers a sort of flow to the overall interior space. and when you think cabin, the first thought is often dark, heavy, thick woods, the kind so dark, that (to me), are almost smothering of the space.

this particular cabin is filled with light, bright wood. and a ton of large clear windows allow for lots of light. even better. so surrounded by nature with modern amenities? pretty much perfection i would say. enjoy!

already thinking of gardens...

i know it's only january 2nd. i know it's cold freezing out (in my part of the world). i know there is currently snow on the ground. but i'm already thinking of gardens...
and especially this garden/patio furniture line, cu!, offered up by wilde & spieth is designed by avinash shende who was born and raised in india.

this cu! chair is super stable, manufactured as one piece, no screws, no separate parts. and the cu! chair has optional padded seat and back cushions, so you are comfy in your garden or patio. a great look is one thing, but comfort, yeah...we all still want that. stack them. bring them indoors or out. these are just great design, and add a very cool architectural quality to your natural environments. plus they're pretty. so...enjoy!

clear and a new year.

a couple of days after christmas i took a walk. it was almost the new year, it was clear. a baby seal pup and the mom and dad followed me along as i walked. they kept peeking up at me to see where i was. people walked slowly, even the ocean seemed quiet that day.
this beach allows trucks to explore too. i love the imprints of tires in the sand. lines that go forward, outward, to where they are going, and lines that come in, from where they've been.

the waves and the marks they left behind mimicked the sky and the few clouds that were there. the sky was quiet too. this is my edge, it's where i go to get clear, to stay clear. it's where i go to remember things and it's where i go to forget things. this day seemed extra clear.

now it is the new year! i hope this new year is just as clear. i hope that yours is too! enjoy...

ancient to modern, in salento italy.

when this italian architect/designer couple were searching for a vacation home, away from their hectic home base of milan italy, they headed southeast, to salento, which some call the high heel in italy's boot...
at one time a 17th century oil mill, complete with original stone floors, walls and those amazing arches, the architect couple of ludovica serafini and roberto palombo knew the lines were there, and what they could do with them...

all of the washed out whites, the natural color palette introductions to each and every space leaves this modern vacation home sunny, warm and welcoming. another really great aspect of this article, which was featured on dwell, here, is that as designers, the couple also designed much of the furniture and you can read about each piece or where to find them for yourselves.

i LOVE this space. it is where i'll place my self today, imaginatively, as i day dream among freezing cold temperatures and a coating of snow on the ground. enjoy!

stark.

i'm loving all of this stark whiteness this sunday morning...
(1,2,3,4,5,6)
i'm constantly drawn lately to starkness, to whites, to clean lines and clean spaces. i could spend time in any or all of these spaces today. just saying...enjoy!

i'd like to wake up here this morning...

i would love this saturday to be walking into this room, with hot coffee in my hand. sitting in that buttery leather chair and enjoying the light. and this view.
(via)
this warm wooden interior comes by way of a 2 bedroom home in austria. you can see more images here. oh, and the architect is sven matt. you can see more of his work here.

i'll tell ya what. i'm all kinds of into simplifying these days. my life. my spaces. everything and anything. spaces like this are my pull these days. i hope you are in a warm space today, enjoying some sort of fabulous view too. even if it's your own back yard ;) enjoy!

happy friday and what bed style are you?

happy friday friends! you've done it, you've made it to the end of what i hope was a productive and inspiring week. i wanted to ask you as we approach the weekend, and with visions of sleeping late dancing in our heads, what bed style do you have? or if you are about to make a change regarding bed style, what style of bed are you currently drawn to? this fab find from wooden beds offers up an interesting array of choices, and for every taste imaginable. have a look...

if you are currently looking for a new bed, are you leaning toward something oh~so~french or european in style such as these loire or bordeaux beds?

or do you lean towards the more traditional, sleigh style of bed? and are you a painted wood furniture kind of person or stained all the way?

this, the ananke wooden bed frame suits your traditional style for sure...

and if you are gearing up for a big change, from traditional to uber modern and sleek, the ice aria bed frame, in high gloss white satisfies any modern wish.

truth be told, i lean a tad more toward the european, but really more toward vintage. but that's what is so great about this selection from wooden beds, from painted to stained, from traditional to incorporating a whole new, modern look to your spaces, whether they be residential or commercial, mixing it up and trying new styles is what it's all about. right?

what do you have planned for your upcoming friday night and weekend ahead? it's looking like it will be a beautiful weekend in my part of the world. i am working on sunday, but in between now and then, i'm looking forward to a glass of red wine, a run each morning, and perhaps a chocolate croissant at my favorite french bakery is in order. now that's what i'm talking about....enjoy!

a restful weekend.

all images from ffffound.

how are you relaxing this weekend? are you catching up on sleep? taking a tub? partying? slowing down or speeding up? however you spend this weekend enjoy these images of restful spaces and places, remembering that in whatever way we spend our time, we always have our beds and tubs to look forward to at the end of the day...or night.

i'll most likely be catching up on more painting of walls and trim at home, but perhaps teetering on my ladder with a glass of red wine in hand :) enjoy!
