blu dot.
for those about to rock...the first piece I zeroed in on from blu dot was their buttercup rocking chairs. they come in a variety of colors and i loved the fact that the top of the chair doesn't seem to match the bottom...another words they look like you took 2 different chairs and sort of put them together. organic, fluid shaped white oak and walnut on the top, brushed stainless steel base, at the base. fun, funky and inviting. blu dot founded by 3 guys seeking to furnish their after college first homes and becoming very unhappy at what they were seeing for style and price. born in 1997, blu dot states that "Our goal is to bring good design to as many people as possible. We like to think that the form is almost inevitable, a by-product of the process. Our job is simply to help it emerge as beautifully and as efficiently as possible." house and garden (currently the new sister mag, domino) goes on to say that blu dot is "the latest in affordable cool." and alexandra lange of metropolis magazine sums it up with "running concurrently with blu dot's high seriousness about utility, affordability, modernity… is a strain of high ridiculousness." is blu dot the new ikea? supplying more furniture for your home at a low cost? not sure but looking through their site, i'm sure there is a piece here and there that will grab your attention.
