contemplative spaces.

this monday afternoon, i'm enjoying imagining myself in either of these contemplative spaces featured recently on emmas's design blog. surrounded by sunlight. being super productive but relaxed at the same time. a perfect situation.

where do you go to relax? the other day the internet (yet again) was non~existent in my house and i walked on over to the library (yeah, thankfully it's that close) and plunked myself down at one of their tables in the computer area. with the slow traffic flow of people and the whispering of conversation around me, i found myself breathing deeply, sitting heavily, relaxed and productive all at the same time. i love that! enjoy...

hello monday. & sett studio.

"hi. we build environmentally responsible homes and studio spaces." and so that begins the tour of sett studio's site, how great! i found sett studio through dwell and for today, as i'm busy, busy with graduate mid~terms/papers/studying, i'd love to wander out to the back yard, sit in the sun and for a little while, and be in my own little world.

sett studio's philosophy broadly is that less is more. more specifically, their philosophy goes like this: "less wasted space, and more efficient design. every square foot is thoughtfully considered, delivering a responsible structure that makes you smile."

ok...smiling is good. smiling is very good. and this is good. good design. good looks and a really good idea!

how was your weekend? i'd love to hear ;) i managed my time fairly well (which sort of surprised me). i hope this monday is beginning with a positive bang. a delightful tone. a sunny start! enjoy...

so. i need to breathe a little deeper. i want to take my son to lunch in boston and bop around, in and out of some of our favorite shops. i hope that i see more of the beautiful fall leaves on my drive, before they all change to brown.

happy friday friends! i wanted to share with you today an amazing new to me designer andreas kowalewski. andreas reinterprets the usual, transforming pieces, tables, lighting...you name it, into an improved piece, a piece that is an alternative to the typical. have a look...

andreas holds a masters degree in industrial design and it shows. he experiments with the latest manufacturing technologies and material properties creating ambitious new critical designs.

several of andreas's pieces are mobile, such as the wedge table in the first image. they have interlocking pieces and can be stacked and packed. so, in so many ways, andreas kowalewski is testing design's boundaries, pushing the artistic envelope. and as well he should! enjoy...

stone textile & pillows.

to add madness to an already insane pillow problem that i have, these black & white beauties offered up by stone textile are fast becoming a new favorite.

i guess what i love so much about pillows (i know...i'm getting a real deep about pillows here huh?) is that they are so versatile, mobile, movable, and with all of that, they change, transform, boost and compliment any space, all of the time. pillows are easy, can accommodate season changes and mood changes. and if a pillow problem is the worst thing i have going on right now, then i'll take it ;) enjoy!

stacked pretty.

the bedside space is a area i enjoy mixing up, changing around, doing it differently. i think the look of this little space, with the single pendant wrapped around the branch is simply stunning. of course now i must try to copy this ;)

race furniture. it's about the lines.

i'm enjoying this line of seating by race furniture, a british based company. what i love most is their use of line and leaving that line exposed, as elemental and structural, offering integrity and strength to each piece.

as well as utilizing line, race furniture also incorporates color in a subtly/bold way. if that makes sense? hints of color although bold, can be exciting and flirty. spontaneous and interesting. if you are in the market for a change~out of an older piece to a newer one, they have a sweet selection.

oh, and as an curious sidenote, race furniture also builds stadium seating, for movie theaters or theaters in general, kind of cool. enjoy!

akos major photography. capturing wild.

i was taken away, somewhere far away this morning while viewing the stunning, captivating method with which akos major captures wild.

can you quietly imagine one of akos major's works hanging in your home, your commercial space? i'd want one larger than life. very large in fact...because the vast landscapes he captures i think call for that.

is that fluffy piece below an armchair? a couch? well, yes please! i would give just about anything to sink into that, whatever it is, and pronto. here's a glimpse into my last few crazy days...

so...as i write this, it's monday night. i've had trouble complete and utter frustration with my wireless all weekend. so what does that mean? i've strategically carried my laptop, around and around the house, like i'm searching for some sort of magic power, touching down at various locations such as on top of the oven, or over the dishwasher (currently), only to obtain said magic signal.

the signal is important. in fact i'm scarily letting it become my personal divine intervention, my saviour, i'm crazy with graduate work, like nuts with graduate work. so the signal is like lifeblood right now. i NEED it. i MUST have it. see, i'm losing it and hence the need for the fluffy couch/armchair/beautiful and intoxicating piece of relaxation i see before me in this image.

redemption: i've poured a glass of red wine. i don't care if my graduate lecture slowly becomes blurry and the signal fades. i'll take that glass of wine, raise you a fluffy chair and goodnight! ;) enjoy...

glorious glory.

these matte white lacquer lights, offered up by vibia and aptly named gloria, are indeed glowing and glorious.

i am drawn to the ethereal and rather cloud~like nature and the organic texture/shape of these glory lights. they ease into spaces, they quiet spaces down, they are interesting and beautiful, all rolled in one fabulous light.

happy monday to you! i hope this past weekend left you rested, rejuvenated and ready for a brand new week of amazing challenges. you can do it! i'm kind of talking to myself here as i have a HUGE mid-term and a HUGE amount of coursework in front of me. bring on more coffee ;) enjoy!

yesterday i featured a really fabulous do~it~your~own~way honeycomb book shelf, wall treatment idea. i also love this x shaped book/storage shelf idea. it's amazing how utilizing natural or simple every day shapes can transform the very space you think needs a transformation.

ok, so, while i'm seemingly into do~it~yourself~ideas this week, why not another? and why not for a fabulous friday, right? maybe stimulating you for a fun weekend project? the blog, a beautiful mess (cool name too!) featured this honeycomb shelf make it yourself post this summer. i love it. i want it.

oh, and think about the possibilities...you can paint the wood instead of leaving it natural or stained. you could add hints of neon, inside the honeycomb cell maybe? or directly applied to the edges for a more subtle pop? you could really have some serious fun building these...and filling them ;)

the brick house's 2 diy table ideas. so great.

i'm enjoying reading about these 2 diy table makeover ideas. really they are new construction in a way, of bought or found pieces. morgan satterfield of the brick house, also a fabulous read on it's own and chock full of interior goodness, featured 2 posts recently, with these amazing outcomes.

the first table, the top, was found & purchased on craigslist. it's one of those curious pieces of wood that you think..."huh, i'm not sure i like that." until you see what you can do with it, as in adding fabulous hairpin legs and dipping them in neon. so, that's what she did...have a look. oh, and you can read more about exactly how she accomplished the whole perfect look, here.

the second diy table idea features another curious chuck of wood, also found on craigslist but this time, morgan took galvanized steel pipes wrapped in jute and dipped in soft yellow paint for the addition of new legs. see more and read more about this project, here.

so...which one is your favorite idea and are you currently turning your head, looking around every room in your house for something to transform and spray paint like i am? seriously, how fun are these tables? love. enjoy!
