already thinking of gardens...

i know it's only january 2nd. i know it's cold freezing out (in my part of the world). i know there is currently snow on the ground. but i'm already thinking of gardens...

this time of year, in my part of the world, it should be freezing cold. in fact it's going to get that cold soon, at the end of the week. but for now, it's mild and fall~esque weather. so, if i could, this would be the outfit i'd wear today. sparkle mixed with plaid flannel? ah, yeah, perfection!

a big winter sky.

i took a walk yesterday. there is a golf course nearby that runs along the ocean. it's one of my favorite places to walk. and this time a year, you find yourself all alone, the entire landscape to yourself. it was cold, clear and gorgeous weather. the time of day was approaching sunset, which happens so quickly i swear i had to start running towards it to even capture it. this is how the sky changed...

geometric monday diy.

while i'm feeling super artistic this winter season, i thought i'd share a cool diy idea i saw over on weekday carnival's blog, this geometric wall she painted in her home.

what i love, besides how amazing hers turned out, is that anyone, you or i, could emulate the same idea, but create totally new patterns and implementing totally varied color palettes. first of all: do you like this idea? second: what kind of patterns would you draw out, more simplistic or even more complex? third: would you utilize a similar color palette, soft hued, or would you go more daring & bold?

i think if i was trying this for the first time, i'd keep the pattern simple and maybe go even more subtle with the color palette. how about tones of white, some warmer than others? and all just a shade off from the next? that would be a nice & wintry wall for ya! enjoy...

i am enjoying my thanksgiving at my sisters, with family. there will be candles, wine, turkey (soy meats for me, i'm a vegetarian), breads, catching up, slowing down. unwinding and laughing. hopefully lots of laughing.

i've been going about a thousand miles an hour lately. for a lot of reasons i've found myself diving into coursework, forcing myself to avoid the voids (here) and new ones i've been feeling. this day will be good for me. it will be good for all of us! enjoy...really, enjoy.

fall feels.

this afternoon it is gray and sprinkling out. i want to throw my hair up, jump into a super soft warm sweater, sip a french coffee at my favorite cafe and be surrounded by fall feels.

fall is for fire.

fall is for fire. i mean, let's face it...who isn't drawn to a good fire? winter is for fire too, but the autumn is our first chance at it after a long beautiful warm summer.

i've noticed as i've driven around my area already this fall, especially happening by commercial spaces savouring their outdoor patios just as long as they can, that there are certainly some very cool options for outdoor fireplaces. these from planika have my attention today. why? just because they're different. that's why...

i love that a coffee table is transformed into an indoor/outdoor spectacle. a place to gather, in a primeval sort of way, around the fire, mesmerized and captivated. relaxed and rejuvenated. fire does that. i don't know if any of us know why, but it does.

i hope that your tuesday is starting off in a productive and positive way. i have beaucoup amounts of work to do today for my graduate courses. so i'm planted right here for a while, my view the computer screen. i'll get out for a run or something though, every now and then, must. step. away. from. the. computer. ;) enjoy!

this friday morning, i find myself vintage lusting over a few of the snazzy unique objects (or if you are feeling french, objets uniques) on the fab french blog/store so so lovely and her eklektic collection.

two new metallics.

loeffler randall has me envious of all things metallic for the fall. these joanna welted oxfords and those allie wedge booties are right up my ally, with rolled up jeans, or brand new black leggings and my favorite slouchy sweater. "a mix of sophistication and downtown cool."

mid~day tuesday & speaking of color...

i know i'm posting alot about color these days but there is something about this spring and upcoming summer that has me all kinds of giddy for color. and if you know me, i'm a play it safe and where black, grey and neutral colors, alot, kind of girl. so it's sort of freeing in a way to purchase color, or florals or patterns mixing color. this afternoon, i was taken with these tones of yellow. soft, feminine and easy breezy summery.

sunday style, spring ready

here's to sundays! and how is it that we are all getting so close to feeling like spring, in march? if you live in new england, that is a rare occasion, to be outside, not reaching for a jacket and leaving the heat off for the day.

if it was a little warmer today (it is supposed to be in boston but not near the coast, where i live) i would slip into any or either of these beauties. that very origami dress with the tribal prints is fabulous. and as for the skirt? pair it with anything for spring.

we are in the mood today to grab subs & chips, a few beers and head to a sunny spot on the beach to take in the little bit of spring that has greeted us today. so we just might do it.
