currently coveting akari light sculptures
i feel like i've gone through some months now not knowing exactly what is inspiring or moving me in some way, besides nature...
but thease akari light sculptures stopped me today and i'm finding them particularly interesting and a bit dreamy. what do you think? read more about the artistic process here in creating a modern take on the traditional japanese gifu lanterns. just loving these.
enjoy!

pigeon toe
i am seriously in love with this new to me line of lighting offered up by portland oregon-based pigeon toe...
and besides the amazing lighting, i love this quote on pigeon toe's about page which reads "you will know a pigeon toe piece by its purpose, you will remember it for its presence, and you will love it for what it transcends."that my friends is just awesome, like their lights...enjoy!

woven by vincent sheppard
belgian-based vincent sheppard is offering up a new twist on woven furniture that i really like. not your typical rattan which in many ways can look cheap or short term, vincent sheppard's pieces are modern, sleek, "imaginative designs that combine tradition and modernity"...
there is a really neat textural element that woven furniture or light shades like these add to any space, residential or commercial. i have always felt that not only adding in texture to your spaces, but mixing textures, mingling a variety of coarser or finer textures to spaces/places keeps it interesting, it allows your eye to flow in and around a space and feel different things. i love that!
i also love this line. it's fresh, elegant and utilitarian all rolled into one great design ball. to read more about vincent sheppard's creative design timeline, head here, & enjoy!

artist spotlight: javier martin
self taught visual artist javier martin has created a "blindness" collection, utilizing models and fashion portraits (most taken by him) to exemplify how society can quickly judge, without looking further, especially when it comes to human beings...
javier completes his "blindness" collections in a variety of mediums, (see more here), but today i was drawn to the striking, deliberately distruptive line that the medium of neon has within and on each piece. i also really like his his printcut series, here. just saying...enjoy!

allied maker
man oh man there is some amazing lighting coming out of new york these days and allied maker is another equally amazing find of mine...
here's a little bit about them, husband and wife team ryden & lanette rizzo. ryden designs each piece and each piece is constructed in allied maker's workshop. "allied maker developed a hand-applied blackening process, satin brass finish, and smooth yet deeply textured wood finishes." and wow. i am particularly drawn to their sconce lighting as i really love the way they protrude and interact with the flat wall space most.
but i again, had to stop myself from posting every single image they share, of each piece, they are all that spectacular. this is what i'm talking about friends, adding into your spaces, whether residential or commercial, important, thoughtful pieces like this. it makes all the difference. enjoy!

flow(t) lighting
this hand-made line of lighting completely stopped me today. it's aptly titled flow(t) by designer nao tamura. nao speaks to her inspiration and the delicate process of achieving these lights below...
evocative (to me) of nautical buoys, yet in the most elegant of ways, these flow(t) chandelier lights are seriously breathtaking. i almost can't imagine just one, they need to be clustered, they form a magical floating landscape that way.
read more about nao tamura here, and her flow(t) lights. simply stunning. enjoy!

optical lighting by lee broom
i'm head over heels for this "optical light" designed by british product & interior designer lee broom...
the "op art graphic patterns are the inspiration for this modern pendant light," and lee chooses materials such as opaque glass and black satin spun steel at the core in this particular design. oh, and if you are enamored with his optical line, there's more. waaaaay more to admire and wish for with regard to lighting but also furniture. (he's even been awarded by the queen!) there is much that is very organic about lee's designs, lots of round, fluid lines and shapes.
but to me, it is the line, in every piece lee creates, that steels the show. he utilizes line in careful and interesting ways. they draw you in, on every visual level. he designs line in motion, still, off center, & layered. i love that! enjoy...
