a serious sideboard.

the belgian design team jo-a is truly making some amazing furniture, have a look at just their sideboard alone. one of the most beautiful i've seen. seriously...
jo-a describes their line as "functional, beautiful, and emotional." really it is. but the craftsmanship is dominant, the attention to material, space, line and overall design is prominent and important.

and if you think that this sideboard is something, you should see the stairs! enjoy...

pink conversion.

happy friday and let's talk about the color pink. i've never been a huge fan of pink. i have nothing against the color pink, i suppose i've just never liked it on me, or in my home really. there is something rather sicky sweet about it that just doesn't jive with me or most of my moods or my personality i suppose. but these pink walls, and that rope railing have me seeking some sort of pink conversion. and are those stairs cork? wow.

what about you? do you wear pink? would you ever paint a wall as large as this in your home or commercial space pink? i'd love to hear. enjoy ;)

a serious stairway.

this west side duplex in new york city, and designed by architects tsao & mckown has the most amazing staircase. oh, and the rest of the space is pretty rad too. check it out here.
this space or spaces, have a very zen/buddhist appeal. very east meets west meets the jetsons. very comfortable and extremely intriguing. the duplex is chock full of a super natural color palette. and with all of that, the stark white staircase appears and grabs you and invites you to wherever it leads. and you go. and you love that. i love that. enjoy!

an open plan.

this wednesday morning, i'm inspired by the completely open/transparent floor plan of this space. incorporating the light color palette amongst the heavy wooden beams and then framing it all together as if viewing a painting or sculpture from afar. add in all of those amazing lines emanating from the long and rambling stairway hand railings, and you have such an interesting space.

line is utilized everywhere here. from the abstract artwork on the second floor, to the addition and mixture of modern and classic/traditional lighting throughout, line is what ties this space together and at the same time, what separates it from others. gorgeous! enjoy...

a summer home in sweden.

every now and then i'll peruse the pages of architectural sites, ogling the amazing designs, landscapes, angles, lines and materials used, all of it. every now and then, those more stark environments, sometimes evocative of scandinavian design stop me, and you know what? they don't appear sterile for some reason. this summer house in sweden is typical of what i'm talking about. the light, warm woods with burst of bright color, bringing amazing natural color, indoors. have a look...

i was really drawn in by all of that blue, and the way the light allowed to stream into the house bounces off of it. brilliantly. you could never be sad in this happy summer house.

designed by lasc studio, the designers aimed "to remain true to the materials typically used in the region, they chose concrete, pine and white plaster with the addition of vibrant colors to liven the inside." lasc converted an old farmhouse in skane sweden, with its two sided woodstove, all of this color, all of this light. i'm just enjoying, well, enjoying it. as my summer winds down here in new england, i'd love to able to hop into this space once the snow arrives, the blue alone would make me smile. enjoy!

harmonic spaces.

it started with this space, via rum, with literally the word "harmony" pulling it together. i wanted to share other harmonic spaces, in my view, all in their own way, all for different reasons. for all of you traveling today, (i saw so many people on the news still trying to get home from their holidays, stuck at airports!) or trying to! breathe, you'll be back to your harmonic spaces soon ;)

(all others via tumblr)

what is it about your spaces that make it harmonic to you? have you changed your lighting, or moved a big piece or a super small piece in your home (or maybe even your commercial space) and thought...that's it! so much better!? hmmm. for me it's definitely about lighting and positioning. i'm drawn to super soft lighting, especially at night, it calms my space, promotes it, displays it and softens it. placement of your "things" is also important, for it creates a flow, a dynamic, a mood, a path. i find sometimes i can move the simplest of "things" and the space will feel a little more right, a little more approachable. i love that! tell me about your harmonic realizations or experiences, i'd love to hear ;) enjoy!!

woolly pockets. decorating with nature.

i have to tell you, these woolly pockets are the sweetest contraptions and may be the best things invented since sliced bread.

what's best is that they are so portable, you can bring nature indoors to not only enjoy but to design with. commercially, as you saw on the staircase sides in the photos above, to residential, they are completely versatile and imaginative!

"woolly pockets are handmade in the USA. we try to make as little impact on the earth as possible, and make every effort to use sustainable, local sources for all of our materials."
flexible, breathable and modular, they can go anywhere, set them up on walls, backs of doors perhaps? that's what's fun, you could pop them up anywhere and everywhere. i'd love a woolly pocket wall of all succulents. wow. happy almost friday everyone! enjoy...

up the stairs, down the stairs and out the door.

i don't have stairs at home. we live in a rented cute little 2 bedroom cottage (for now.) if i did have stairs in my home, i'd relish ascending and descending any of these. they would gladly welcome me home from a long day, or whisper "hey, have a great day!" on my way out the door.

all pictures found via living etc.

today is busy, i'm painting at a friends home today, cleaning out the car this morning, and then possible cramming a run in somewhere in between. if i could run down the stairs this morning and head out the door, i'd descend staircase number 1. how about you? are you running this morning or relaxing? wherever you're off to, enjoy!
