the architects were balance associates, the photography is by steve keating and the view? well i'll leave that up to you as to its origin.

what i'm finding in my adult years is my fascination with all things modern. having grown up in a state, town, and neighborhoods with traditional, historical and puritanical overtones and architecture...my taste for such modernity seems out of place. and there is something to be said for all of that and the beauty that resonates from structures so old, structures withstanding years or centuries of amazing events. they exude that, they are proud and stately.

but the clean lines and open air of a structure such as this nahahum canyon house is breathtaking. sometimes it's about the architecture and sometimes it's about the pairing of architecture and environment. this is one of those pairings. stunning.

these are pretty cool. this "aleaf" armchair offered up by design you edit. armchair/workstation/lounge/...it's a curious chair to be sure...

i'm drawn to the fluid and organic shape. plus the aleaf chair is flexible, moving as you move. adjusting as you need it to. watch the chair in use here.

design you edit displays this chair in various locations (even poolside!). i think that it is super conducive to many spaces/situations. i think that is what is so darn interesting about it. enjoy!

saskia diez jewelry.

i haven't been wearing alot of jewelry lately, but the designs (and the lookbook!) offered up by saskia diez have my attention lately...

saskia talks interestingly about her line, her jewelry. she states "jewelry is decoration for sure. but it also can secure me, be my company." it's kind of true. when i wear a particular piece of jewelry, at least for me, i am cognizant of it all day, it moves in particular ways, it affects me and even changes my mood or approach to a particular day or situation. can jewelry make your day? maybe...enjoy saskia's line!

i swear, why are some weeks/days like that and some simply fllllly by? weird. but, i am seriously looking forward to this weekend! my son will be on a bus heading back from college for the weekend, so there's that. (i'm hoping to snag a great photo of him for christmas cards, we do it every year!)

my graduate thesis was just accepted, so let's keep piling on the good right? those two add up to celebrating and some christmas shopping mixed in. what are you up to? anything fantastic? or nothing at all? which can be equally fantastic! whatever your plans are this weekend, whatever your view is, your mood, enjoy!

give the gift of all things summer, this winter...

i've been following ladyslider's site for a while now. living vicariously through each grain of sand, feeling the ocean on my skin when it's too cold in my part of the world to do so, and just plain ol' envying the creative process and professional yet relaxed nature of tara michie's work. she's just opened a small on line shop where you too can catch a wave or at least a small piece of summer, when you really need it (like now!). these were some of my favorites...enjoy!

orphism.

i'm reflecting today on the bold yet free shapes and color palette combinations of early modern artist sonia delaunay...

the ways with which sonia smashed together pattern and line, all with daring amounts of paint, and with wild abandon. sonia delaunay was a jewish-french born artist, married to artist robert delaunay, both known for generating a new movement in art known as orphism, the utilization of strong colors and bold geometric shapes.

you can read more about sonia here and here, in this shared book. i could sit and stare at sonia's work a while. it all seems so simple but there are more complexities than meets the eye. enjoy!

the very unique site, incipit is featuring, among other interesting product, these "tull lights" designed by tommaso caldera...

i like them alot because tommaso has managed to design the construction cage lamp with a new twist and edge. sleek, modern and fun in their color combinations. equipped with a leather handle for mobility, these tull lamps are perfect in clusters or standing (or hanging!) alone, and for residential or commercial spaces.

what's great about a design like these tull lights is that they are one of those pieces, that when well placed, can be unexpected in particular environments, they can throw an otherwise formal space, off, but in a good way. any space, formal or not, and in my opinion, needs that piece that in it, that piece that keeps you guessing, that you just didn't expect. i love that! enjoy and happy monday!!
