beneath the sun.

beneath the sun is offering up some bold & really pretty pillows as of late. and if you are in the mood for some more color, they have color coming at ya...
illustrator and designer leah bartholomew captures color in a big way and as she puts it "brings happiness to a room." and hey, bringing happiness to a room is a good thing. bringing happiness in general is a good thing. so we like her. and her pillows ;) enjoy!

just a thought...

i like this thought this afternoon, i love this photography...
super talented seattle based photographer andria lindquist, featured on breanna rose's blog, has an equally amazing website (equipped with cool music!). one thing i really like is that andria states that "i'm not for everyone. i will always stay true to my style and the creativity that i'm drawn to in photography."

hey you've got to, to stay true, to your creativity, to yourself. right? oh! and check out her about me page (look under "rundown"), here, it's as honest as her photos. and fun. enjoy!

dedon's seaX line.

having just returned from a few days away, all i've done since...is want to plan my next trip...
seriously i have. it does a body and a mind good to get away from the ordinary and the usual. and don't get me wrong, i love that feeling when you get home, to your own things, your own way of doing things. but getting away is just so fun...

on that note, this seaX line of chairs and tables offered up by dedon, the ways with which they've chosen to photograph their product line, just all of it, is contributing to my get way fantasies. "this ultra-sophisticated foldable armchair is the work of french designer jean-marie massaud." massaud takes inspiration from sleek america's cup racing sailboats and incorporates a collection of materials from modern metals to leathers and superb woven fabrics into his designs.

what inspires you these days? are you itching to get away? if you can...where would you go? i'd love to hear! enjoy...

tennessee...

i'm recently back from a few days in tennessee. i hope you'll humor me with a few photos of my time there...
we walked the streets of knoxville, looked through old photos of my dad, met my brother shane's 2 year old daughter, made funny faces with her, why not? we fed the fish in my dad's koi pond, then fed them again. and again ;)

we looked for horses, fed them apples and watched them drool all over our feet. we created an impromptu picnic in the mountains (wherever we could pull off and find a view as most of the sight seeing areas were closed due to the government shutdown...ah, yeah). we stared out at the foliage changing in the smoky mountains for a long time. for you never see the same things twice.

there was lots of running around (after said 2 year old), there was wine drinking, laughing until it hurt and sipping coffee while the morning fog cleared out of the mountains. it was a long time coming, getting back to tennessee. it's a place i'd like to spend more time. doing all of those things, again & again...enjoy!

monday & pira stools.

happy monday friends! i'm back from tennessee and will hopefully post a few fun photos later today. in the meantime, i wanted to share with you just why i have a small obsession with stools...
these "piro" stools, designed by colombian born industrial designer danilo calvache are handmade utilizing triplex metal frames with a solid wooden seat. the simplicity of design is usually what gets me, what stops me. between color palette, materials used, the lines of the design, if you keep it simple, sometimes, most of the time, it's literally all you need.

i hope that these past few days have treated you well and i can't wait to share a little bit of my time in tennessee with you. enjoy!

i'm hanging out, in tennessee...
(via)
hey friends, i've landed in tennessee! here for a few days to breathe, take in the landscape, visit with family and friends and sip really good coffee and really good wine ;) i prepared this post in advance...opting to leave my computer behind. (it actually feels kind of refreshing to do that!)

i will take tons of photos and hope to share some of those with you early next week. i'm hoping to locate this guy again...for now, have a great upcoming weekend and feel good. enjoy!

afternoon.

just checking in to see how your afternoon is plugging along?
(via)
i'm working, but in between all of that, i'm buying my favorite french coffee to bring to tennessee, picking up some home made granola that a certain someone loves, picking out something pretty for a very young someone i haven't met yet and getting excited to get away...

where are your thoughts this afternoon? i hope you are daydreaming of lovely things too...enjoy!

very wood.

the product, the lines of the product that very wood of italy is producing are really, really simply beautiful.
much of very wood's designs consist of "simple wooden elements that recall traditional wooden constructions." but in my eyes, it's all of that but with a twist. or two. and this is only a super small snippet of what very wood offers. you really have to take in more from their site, here. it's a great site too!

the lines are more dynamic, they are more interesting and modern. so very wood has taken a traditional and natural medium and played with it. and i love that! enjoy...

a seattle house tour.

i'm drawn this afternoon to this seattle house tour featured on a clementine daily. it's about the light, it's about the lack of light and it's about an amazing home in capitol hill. (see more photos here.)
it's melissa o'hearns house. melissa talks about minimalistic spaces, which i'm ever increasingly drawn to myself. she talks about the fact that she has trouble starting something new unless the space is clear first...me too. she talks about the fact that the summer in seattle is so beautiful and that winter can tend to suck the life out of you if you let it. me too. so she suggests a winter getaway, to somewhere warm, somewhere where there's sun. me too. i could live anywhere as long as you get me to the sun every now and then, to "defrost" as melissa says. enjoy!

stick lights.

i love the textural quality these "stick" lights offered up by fabbian bring to spaces, residential or commercial.
inspired by a pair of pliers, designer matali crasset creates the stick light, "bent elements stretched by a central support." and while the choice of wood as the main material in this lamp certainly offers a warm, diffused sense of light, the repetitive wooden slats offer a unique and interesting shadow and effect.

i truly believe in incorporating a mixture of textural elements in to spaces when designing. whether it is a commercial or residential space, adding texture adds interest. period. i also love to mix older with newer items. that too offers a view that has different dynamics going on, generations of style. especially when some of your favorite pieces are collected from travels you've taken or amazing flea markets you've visited. you picked them because you were drawn to them. and in the end, that shows. enjoy!
