zoe keramea: "explores enfolded surfaces using sculpture, printmaking, drawing and ceramics. she was born in athens in 1955." zoe spends her time and works between athens and new york. on friday night our friends mary and mark who own the most beautiful jewelry store/art gallery on cape cod called "M Atelier" had zoe keramea and her work there and will have her work there for the month of august. as a unique artist zoe works with paper so intricately it's mesmerizing. she also creates beautiful sculpture with her paper by tying handmade box-like cubes together leaving strings hanging while also keeping each sculpture tonal and uninterrupted, creating a most fascinating three dimensional sculpture. zoe's ceramics are also one of my fav's, they are stark, simple yet stand out as original and with all of her continuous lines, you could stare at each piece for a while. i'd almost hate to place food or anything else on them! last but not least, i have to mention her alphabet books, above you can see her pages for the letters "b" and "c", how fun for children or adults to open a book like this with a new take or should i say twist, on the alphabet. how lucky would any of us be to have a one of a kind piece like any of these in our own homes?
