these tones...

maybe it's because it's winter. and there's tons of snow everywhere. and it's beyond cold outside. but these wintry tones are soothing to me today...
(via)

if i could lather my house in these tones today, i would curl up in a ball, under the softest blanket, read and eat cookies all day. no really...i would. enjoy!

this weekend...

happy end to your friday and happy beginning to your weekend!
(via)

these past few weeks have seemed extra busy. (did they for you?) so i'm ready for some down time myself! what are you up to this weekend? anything fun?

i'm heading up to my son's college to take him to dinner (a belated birthday dinner). he loves to eat here, because the pasta on his campus is shall we say, lacking. so he'll stock up on it that night for sure!

i also am feeling creative toward this valentine's day. i want to make these cookies, or at least get everything i need and bake them next week. wherever you go, whatever you do, enjoy!

friday & black crow studios.

this friday i thought we'd have fun. with wallpapers...
this is an incredible line. INCREDIBLE. black crow studios is offering up mind boggling unique patterns, from a line of dreamy watercolors, to strict geometric patterns, to graffiti, to you name it. and you know why? they create custom wallpapers, they love the challenge of new ideas based on the knowledge that everyone has their own style and taste. and they're right.

i have to say, their watercolor line is my absolute favorite. they're chock full of soothing color combinations, abstract landscapes, but all soft and tame. i love that. have a fun friday look at these. & enjoy!

p.s. they have a great blog too, here!

douglas and bec and ceramics.

douglas and bec has lots of amazing things, lights, furniture, jewelry, but today, i'm drawn to all of their beautifully simple ceramic things...
from the top bowl by fort standard...to the leather and ceramic jujumade donut bangle by u.s. based juliana hung, to the up in the air somewhere perfectly not perfect vase/vessel, to the sweet golden swan mug designed by kate sylvester, they're all sort of special, & simply exquisite. sometimes things, pieces, works of art, need not be overdone. sometimes leaving them alone, at a certain point is the point. enjoy!

bespoke & british.

inspired by the mid-century modern era, bark furniture, which describes it's line as "british, hand-made bespoke furniture" brings me back to my grandmother's apartment (in a good way!). and here's why i really LOVE this line...
walking into my grandmother's home was always interesting to me. it was very different from the way my mother decorated her own home. my grandmother's home was full of chunky wooden furniture (i remember she had a big wooden framed chair that when you sat it it and placed your arms and hands on the wooden arms of the chair, your hand position fell into perfectly carved out finger spaces, like oversized wooden claws!), big lamps with even bigger shades, lots and lots of oranges, reds, patterns and prints. bold and present. and wow.

this line, although more refined, sleek and well designed, brings me back to 1975, to always expecting interesting as i walked through the doors of my grandmother's apartment. to those colors, to those wooden framed pieces. to wow. enjoy!

valentine's day color.

these colors are inspiring to me today. they're fresh, rich and exquisite together. never mind that this food styling is making me hungry for a treat...
the photos are for anthology magazine and are by stephanie shih, who also can be found here, on desserts for breakfast. and the cake featured? a grapefruit raspberry flourless torte. check out the recipe here. and making this? (or at least trying to)...a definitely really good valentine's day idea. enjoy!

french by design.

a house tour & a blog shout out today, all rolled into one...
i've lately loving this blog, french by design. which led me to this house tour, which is not in france, but belgium. two artists have combined their talents, and their things to renovate this sweet home. what i think i enjoy most is the simplicity of just about everything, including the overall color palette of the entire interior. all of those slate & soft mushroom tones highlighted by the soft & muted oranges and warm woods. you can read more about the pair, here, on this cool blog. perfect mid~week interior eye candy. enjoy!

i want...

one thing i would very much enjoy this year, is to spend a whole lot more time...outdoors.
(via)

i've had a craving for road trips, camping, experiencing new terrain & views in general. being outside, at least for me, helps me focus, breathe, stay grounded, get grounded. did i say breathe?

what about you? as this new year grabs us, as it pulls us into its throws, what are you craving? what are you wanting or expecting out of this new year, that you feel you missed, or didn't quite get enough of last year? i'd love to hear. for now, enjoy the view.

glass, by tonelli.

so here's the thing, i've never been a big fan of glass furniture. it stems from a freak college accident that is so bizarre you'd never believe me. but this structured glass line offered up by the italian company tonelli design, has me embracing the medium of glass, as furniture, however cautiously...
there is a particular precision to glass, to the lines it creates, to the surface it produces. you really can't emulate it or beat it with a substitute. glass is indeed beautiful, when used correctly. as in, not in incidents or accidents. as in furniture like this. enjoy!

monday wall treatment.

wall & deco as always been the go-to place for eccentric, eclectic and super fun wall treatments. and this new "sarah" line, it doesn't disappoint...
and most likely you don't want an entire room papered with some of what wall & deco has to offer. but papering one wall? oh, why not! wall & deco offers impact to rooms, that wow factor you are looking for. for sure!

this particular line, i thought, is influenced somehow by the likes of edward gorey and salvador dali. futuristic, old fashioned and quirky all rolled into one interesting line of wallpaper. and that's cool.

hoping you had a really great weekend! enjoy...

cool tattoos. dr. woo.

from mattie krall's pinterest site, i saw a link to buzz feed which featured los angeles tattoo artist dr. woo...
now, i don't have a tattoo. i used to think i wanted one. then i didn't. being visual, i figured out that there was probably nothing i could live with forever and never tire of.

but dr. woo's are more than interesting, aren't they? he specializes in black's greys, super fine lines. minimalistic tattoos. follow his instagram here. if you want to see more. it's kind of addictive to look at. artists mediums, muses and subject matter are all so different. whether you are creating on canvas, or whether skin is your canvas, it's all in what you do with it.

what about you? do you have a tattoo? enjoy!
