mariko kusumoto's brooches

these are brooches, pins, created by artist mariko kusumoto, believe it or not...
incorporating materials such as polyester and powder coated metal, mariko states that her work "reflects various, observable phenomena that stimulate my mind and senses; they can be natural or man-made. i ‘reorganize’ them into a new presentation that can be described as surreal, amusing, graceful, or unexpected."

to me, each piece is like bits of a floating dream, scattered colors and shapes and patterns that you sometimes remember but only vaguely once you wake. mariko states that she likes "the softness, gentle texture, and atmospheric (e.g., translucent) quality of the fabrics." these are so special, don't you think? enjoy...
