just reeeeeeeally enjoying this commercial space today. designed by architect craig steely for the san francisco based orenchi beyond, it highlights elements of traditional japanese ramen shops, inviting both indoor and outdoor eating enjoyment...

contemporist featured this space recently and i really wanted to share about it. as you make your way indoors, lured by the glowing red door and sakura wood facade, you are welcomed by japanese sake barrel inspired seating, wooden tables depicting traditional japanese tattoo styles, yakuza movie spots and japanese myths (to make things even more interesting) and a larger than life, steal the space kaleidoscopic bear mural.
but after all that, these are not the ramen noodles you ate throughout college. have a look at orenchi beyond's site and the menu, the ingredients, the way the bowls & plates are presented, stunning. if they say that everything starts in california, then the rest of the country will be waiting for something like orenchi beyond to head their way. enjoy!
