hilla shamia. cast aluminum & wood.

israeli artist hilla shamia combines beautifully rough cut and chunky thick woods with cast aluminum forming an interesting combination of natural materials, melded together in one fabulous design.
shamia states that "the negative factor of burnt wood is transformed into aesthetic and emotional value by preservation of the natural form of the tree trunk, within explicit boundaries. the general, squared form intensifies the artificial feeling, and at the same time keeps the memory of the material."

i am really drawn to designers and artists not only testing the boundaries with style and shape but with mediums used. especially when they are found materials, incorporating new life into every day objects.

have a great start to your tuesday morning friends! enjoy...
