john cruz musical vibes today.

mengly hernandez silk scarves.

mengly hernandez, self proclaimed fashion stylist and textile artist is designing these positively beautiful silk scarves...
on her website mengly writes: "mengly's designs echo her passion for the strong female essence, appreciation for quirky, fun, effortless new york city chic elegance, and her vibrant caribbean roots in the dominican republic."

i first discovered mengly's scarves in this post by designlovefest and was HOOKED. i've always loved wearing scarves. i currently have a stash of silk scarves of my mother's from the 60's and 70's that i wear often. and i get complimented on them often. wearing a scarf brings something special to any outfit. it bring a bit of flair, a bunch of confidence and a smidge of sexy. at least in my opinion. enjoy!

cheers to the weekend!

did this feel like a looooong week to you? it sort of did and sort of didn't to me. besides fighting a bit of wanderlust (for some reason the approach of fall has me wanting to travel like, everywhere) and working hard, i am ready to slow it right down this friday and ease into the weekend...
(via)
i have a book with only one chapter read, so reading is on my list of pleasurable stops this weekend. i also feel that even though i've been eating healthy (kale, pear and ginger smoothies for lunch) that my body is feeling a little off, so i'm going to give into some food this weekend that my body says, just eat that will ya!?

i hope that you have an amazing and exciting weekend. enjoy!

made in americana.

i first discovered the contemporary-classic-quality of new york based made in americana on anne sage's blog, and so glad i did!
started by longtime friends and partners joey grimm and jordan johnson, made in americana's tag line reads "high quality and good design for all." perfect really because the high quality oozes from each piece, each chosen material, the overall design of every single piece.

jordan and joey can design a single heirloom piece for your home or give your office or work space a complete facelift, offering furniture and fixtures that can simply transform spaces and places. i love the sensibility of each piece yet highlighting and original quality that is unmistakable. that's good design, and that's what i'm talking about friends! enjoy...

summer style.

i headed to one of my favorite beaches the other day, to swim and to watch the summer boat traffic...
(images, mine)

beyond the boats is the island of martha's vineyard. the cape and the islands are so busy this time of year and it was so relaxing to sort of hide away, on this quiet beach and watch people getting to and from (and just around) the vineyard in different types of boats in different types of style. i brought a book to read but spent more time staring out, at this, than that. how is your summer? i'd love to hear! enjoy...

my warehouse goods.

i stumbled upon the lofty goodness of my warehouse home at the same time i found a fun new blog (and chock FULL of interior eye candy), happy interior blog...
my warehouse home is one of those shops that gives you really good design bones, and you have to run with it. minimalistic, perfect design for small or lofty spaces. it's almost like they challenge you to take each piece and place it, style it, arrange around and in combination with any of your own pieces, to enhance your already cool space. you know, make it cooler. so that's fun! enjoy!

have a fun weekend!

happy friday and here's to a fun (almost end of summer) weekend!
(via)
what are you up to? anything fun? i am currently trying to come down off of the news that my car is actually totaled from the accident. after hearing the news (and i had just finished paying my car off, ah yeah.), i first became pretty mad, then sort of blah, now i'm getting excited (what else can i do?) about what i drive next.

i still don't like the idea of a car payment right now. so while in transition, between actually wanting to undertake the task of new car shopping (i'd rather go through the entirety of child birth again. no seriously. than new car shop), i'm thinking of going vintage. something with flair. i feel like i need a little flair in my life and this might be the perfect timing to invite some in. i'll let you know what i end up with!

besides dreaming of affordable classic cars, i'm going to be taking in the warm days of august, getting in more swims at my favorite beach and reading my book on the couch in the sun. i hope that you have a seriously fun weekend too! enjoy...

raw edges.

i first came across the super innovative design team of raw edges on the contemporist site, which led me to their site, which led me to fall completely in love with this particular line of dyed wood furniture...
raw edges is really yael and shay who met in jerusalem and moved to london to study at the RCA. after not finding "proper" jobs, they began to play, with materials such as expandable foams and by cooking timber in boiling dyes. why not?

the playing led to designs like these. this "endgrain" collection "harnesses the grain of the wood in order to carry the dye right the way through sections of timber." ah, they do more than that here. the kaleidoscope effect, the mesmerizing swirling color patterns that seem endless and interesting in a constant form are pure magic. and let's not forget their overall design, how they have shaped the wooden table or seat. stunning and classically modern.

you can read more about their process here. OH! and one of the signs hanging in their workshop reads: "you know more than you think you do." mantra for today folks! enjoy...

statement pieces.

bd barcelona is always a really fun go to company for statement pieces. you know, if that's what you are looking for...
and if you have been following my blog for any length of time, you know that i promote at least one statement piece per designed space. a wow piece, a piece that simply and perfectly throws your preconception of how it is supposed to be, off.

every space needs something unexpected, however dramatic or unique you want to go. keep people guessing, keep yourself surprised and interested. that's what it's all about after all. enjoy!
