just a little in your face wow, hi and yeah! this friday...
this is one of the cool new prints ban.do is creating. they're fresh and fun!
what are you up to this weekend? i'm getting my hair highlighted (i soooo need a hair boost!), trying to pretend that more snow is not coming in my direction, and working on my thesis (it was just approved!)...and in between all of that, i've had a hankering to begin a painting (i just purchased a GIANT canvas!) wish me luck. wherever you go, whatever you do, enjoy the heck out of yourself!

ariele alasko is carving things...
ariele alasko is a furniture builder and woodworker living in brooklyn n.y. ariele utilizes woods that come from the walls of hundred year old buildings, (and there are many due to so many home and business renovations). and look at what she does with it...
according to ariele, each piece takes "days or even weeks to complete as every strip of wood is cut individually to attain a perfect fit." i love every piece she creates, (see much more of ariele's work here, and here, including this amazing headboard!) but i'm somehow drawn to her spoons. they are strong and gentle in appearance, all at the same time. natural and special. i hope you enjoy her story and her product today as much as i do! enjoy...
*just a note, ariele does used reclaimed or older woods in the making of her patterned tables and headboards but not in the making of her amazing spoons or cutting boards.

i love these carts for use as a new take on the popular bar cart, or in the kitchen, to roll around and put just about anything you need or want on, or in? in a children's room, as a portable toy cart perhaps? so i guess what i really love is that they are utilitarian, super cute, and super versatile. that's good design my friends! enjoy...

the runners.
bopping around on line tonight, i found this. via miss moss...a short film about runners, the questions they're asked and the answers they give are all super provocative...
The Runners from Banyak Films on Vimeo.
i run. i'm not sure what i would do if someone approached me with a camera let alone a set of questions that are intimate and personal. at any rate, i found this short film witty, artistic, original and interesting...
listen if you wish, and enjoy.

a set of six.
let's talk stripes...
every now and then, after seeing the stripe trend emerge again, i purchase something striped. and then not wear it...
(via)
and i'm not sure why? maybe i'm buying the wrong kind of stripes? or the wrong kind for my hair color, or height? who knows...maybe deep down i'm just not a striped kind of girl? but how can that be when i enjoy perusing pages of stripes in all aspects of fashion, from totes, to coats, to shirts, to shirts with shorts?
well, the mystery is still a mystery. but today, these are some of the ways i'd love to wear stripes. if i purchased them. and then if i actually wore them. enjoy!

a defining look.
i swear i think i could start a collection of side tables. much like pillows, i love the option of changing them in or out, by height, style, color palette & materials...
these "kek" side tables offered up by piet boon, made of steel and marble are, as they describe, "sober and functional" in form. true. but they have a unique character that i can't put my finger on. i think that's why i could collect so many styles by so many different designers. they all have such a unique character and presence, that i want them all! enjoy these for now though...

plants & light.
i'm loving the look of singular large leafed plants lately. they're tropical and breathtaking...
(via)
i bought a large palm recently and it happens to sit in the most perfect spot in my home. it sits at certain times in the sun, looking so happy, and getting so large! i love that. there is a sense of peace that this plant has brought me in the last months, i'm not sure why, but i'm enjoying it. do you have any tropical or large leafed plants? you should get one! enjoy...

i love, love, love impact art. a piece that enters into a space and contributes something unique to that space, that's all positive. this koala is all kinds of positive. so fun! enjoy....

happy friday!
happy friday friends! what are you up to this weekend?
(via)
in my part of the world it's been gray, gray and really gray. so...when winter gives you gray what do you do? this weekend i think i'm hitting up the library for a good pleasure reading book. definitely treating myself to a little more expensive bottle of red wine. moving slow on sunday. and when i'm good and relaxed, getting out for a run at some point. hey, in the gray you need to get your energy up somehow!
i hope that wherever you go, whatever you do, whatever your view is this weekend, you completely enjoy yourself!

pura lights.
i like these alot today. and i can't tell if they remind me of winter or summer...
it's a line of ceramic pendants offered up by the german company steng licht. and each has imperfections, which is perfect. they're unglazed and so natural irregularities which become part of the design.
steng licht's company profile evokes a real sense of "made in germany" but does note that it collaborates with designers from around the world. hey, it's that kind of world today. and that's a good thing! enjoy...
